Access freezes when I copy a record
- Dec 03, 2022I also did that and saw the problem remained
ete_954 Run as administrator works fine as a workaround, unless the table you are working with is on a network. That requires some remapping of the drives for use in an elevated process.
Would be nice if the issue was simply fixed...

Updating Windows isn't going to help because no fix has been released yet, but the Windows team is working on it.
Another workaround that could be feasible in some cases is to create a continuous (multiple item) form and copy from that, rather than from a table/query/form datasheet. - VBA_CoderFeb 16, 2023Copper Contributor
FYI - as of this post, the problem still exists even after applying all the latest Win11 patches and updates that are available to me.
I too have found if I run Access as an Administrator, the problem does go away. However, I have a shortcut to my Access database that the user's click on to run the program. So I would need to train them to Start Access as an Administrator and then open the Access file can be a daunting task, because the "Run As Administrator" option is not available when you right-click on the shortcut icon we have setup for them to run. In fact, if I right-click on the shortcut icon and choose Properties and then on the "Shortcut" tab click the "Advanced" button, the "Run as administrator" checkbox is grayed out, so I can't even set it to run at the shortcut. - Shane GroffFeb 16, 2023

PrinceCorwin Are you able to run Access as an administrator? That is the known workaround.
Depending on your usage, you could also copy records using queries (e.g. an append query to append rows from one table/query to another).
The Windows team is working on a fix, but I don't know yet when that fix will become available.

PrinceCorwin If you are able to run Access in Administrator mode, then Access will function "normally" again without freezes, etc. At least that's been a successful workaround for me as well as other people in this discussion.

I can't copy anything other than one cell. Multiple cells or an entire record completely freezes access. My entire job is based on data manipulation in Access as a project engineer for a construction company. And NO ONE ELSE in the company is experiencing this, so the common thought is... "you're doing something wrong. Figure it out". My job is in jeopardy because of this.

Hi,
Yes, unfortunately. The current status is still (quote from my documenting article )
"On 30th January, we learned that Microsoft is still actively working on this. We will let you know when there is new information."
When we get details/a date on a fix, I'll update the article and report back here.

Hi,
Yes, uninstalling the causing update is also what I've always suggested as workaround #1 in my documenting article.
Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything from Microsoft about this problem since they announced they were investigating it.

I fixed this issue a while back by uninstalling KB5019980. I've since dropped my guard and thought that MS had fixed this issue, but recently I had to copy a record and this issue reoccurred. Since I could not uninstall KB5019980, cause it didn't show in my updates as one I could uninstall, I started uninstalling the most recent updates and worked my way backwards until this issue was fixed. It t turns out that after I uninstalled KB5021255, which took a bit longer than the others, my issue was fixed and everything works as it should.
