Many times over the course of my career I found the approach Maria suggests to be the better choice. If Excel charts are superior, then using Excel charts makes complete sense.
Typically what I did was create a template in Excel with TWO worksheets (or more, depending on the situation). The first is the formatted "presentation" Worksheet with graphics and other formatting in place. The second is the "landing page" for data exported from Access. The presentation worksheet is linked to the corresponding ranges in the data in the landing page.
In one case, it's worked well for nearly a dozen years....
