Upcoming changes for SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) - Part 1

DavidYorkshire We do not have the ability to have the initial GA release appear in WSUS (again, WSUS is for updates...a new version is not an update).  

With regard to SSMS upgrading the previous version, there is a similar request here: SSMS upgrade vetween versions · Community (azure.com).  As noted in that item, we will be updating the installer experience in the SSMS 21 release.  That release will likely support installation side-by-side with previous releases, and we can explore this suggestion.  However, we likely wouldn't “upgrade” the previous edition for SSMS 20 and earlier…we would uninstall it.  Some customers prefer to have multiple versions installed, and therefore we would need to give folks the option to remove earlier versions.
