Great job with the article Matt Wolodarsky and especially with all the examples and scenarios provided. Those things make it real and concrete and I always appreciate it when people do that instead of just talking theory.
Mike Hollinshead , good question regarding IT as the success champion.
I gotta say that from what I have seen, IT almost always reluctantly takes on the role of success champions. The traditional role of IT has always been "just get it implemented and make sure it's up and running" instead of "make sure user adopt it and there is actual engagement". This is somewhat scary to many IT professionals who are not used to catering to actual users (makes me think of The IT Crowd sitcom from back in the day). It used to be scary for me as well since I also come from a developer background. But then I ultimately got over it and went from being a Technologist to a Psychologist catering to end users

It has become Very clear the last few years that build it and they will come has never been true and now we have a lot of data to prove it with the low engagement numbers throughout so many applications across many organizations. If users don't use the solutions you put out there, what the heck is the point anyway...?
I think the ultimate questions that it all comes down to every single time are:
What's in it for the users?
Why should they care?
These questions need to be very specifically answered by whoever is designated to be the success champion whether it's IT or its Business. If this is not made crystal clear to users, then you will never get engagement no matter how beautiful the Intranet or the Digital Workspace is.
