Publish rich and interactive content with HTML pages in SharePoint
Nicole Woon After being notified by another one of your customers and further testing we can confirm that when an Owner sets File types > Allow HTML files to Off, all it does it hide the Create HTML file option in the Pages library. However, it doesn't actually do anything else including blocking HTML pages as Microsoft have described.
You can still:
- Use Copilot to create an HTML page
- Move or Copy an HTML file into the Pages library
- Upload HTML files into the Pages library (can drag-in-drop from my computer)
Effectively, the Allow HTML files is all smoke and mirrors and doesn't block anything - effectively there is ZERO opt-out at the moment.
Can Microsoft confirm if they will actually implement a true opt-out option for this? Currently, contrary to what Microsoft are saying, there is no option for an Owner to stop this.
Again, we (and sure a lot of your customers - especially large companies) want this disabled by default at the Tenant level and have your "valued" customers decide how they want to roll them out - not Microsoft decide what their customers want/need.
- Disabled at the tenant level (by default) and Owner's opt-in if they want
- Enabled at the tenant level and Owner's opt-out if they want (if they can actually truly opt out that is).
See screenshot below that used Copilot to create an HTML page (which does create the HTML page) with Allow HTML files set to OFF.
