Sara_Cummings Same here, excited about the 27 notification emails this morning :-), thanks for your responses.
I believe most of it has been mentioned already by Stefan_Spinnler and Valyu but I just want to add our experience with the (new) Site Pages templates.
We implement intranet and knowledge management environments for our customers. So page templates are always used and it always requires quite a bit of training for people to use these correctly. Some issues we see:
- You can use at least 4 different ways (depending on permissions) to add a page:
- Settings > Add a page
- Home page > New > Page (or New > News post)
- SP App bar > Create > News post / Page
- Site Pages library > New > 'content type name'
- Besides that all these options are confusing to our customers, not all options give the desired result (e.g. from Site Pages, you cannot select a template)
- We almost always use custom templates, both for news and for other page types, so our customers have no need for the standard templates
- With the new update, the options got even more confusing because templates are no longer called 'Templates' but are hidden under 'Saved on this site' and if you add a news post you get even more templates that we cannot disable
What I would love to see as improvements for pages and templates is:
- Allow admins to disable/enable all of the standard templates (so allow us to choose which of the new email templates and existing standard templates end users see)
- Show the custom templates always on the main screen of the template popup, not hidden under a tab but at the top of the list. We make them because they are needed in the configuration we do for our customers so these are the most important ones!
- Fix the Site Pages > New button problem, this should also launch the same template picker
- Allow pages to be directly created in a selected folder (as an option we can turn on). Use case: Site Pages are not only used for news; in our knowledge management solutions we have different page types with different group permissions. For example: one group is allowed to edit all pages, another group only a subset. Folders can support this but the page creation process does not.
- Allow pages to be manually moved as can be done with documents
Thanks!
