Thank you first of all for engaging so vigorously in the comment section. When I saw 27 new email notifications from this thread this morning, I knew I was in for a great ride/read and I loved the insights and acknowledgements in your replies.
7. I would like to be able to create these "email-enabled" news from the site pages library when I click on the "New" button there. For reasons that probably only grizzled SharePoint product group veterans remember the "New" buttons on the intranet homepage and in the site pages library behave differently with only the former supporting the direct creation of news and the use of page templates BUT creating new pages from the homepage means that they are created on the root level of the site pages library and you can imagine how unwieldy this becomes for big communication sites when everything is stored on the root level and not in folders (e.g. News/2023). You can move newly created pages from the root level to folder but that is sooo un-user-friendly (and just kidding about "moving" pages: Of course you have to copy them and then delete the original because who needs a real move function for pages in SharePoint, right?
).
Bugs 2. Anchor links at the top of a page let you jump down to a specific point on a page. Example: You have all language versions of a news on one single page. At the top of the page there are anchor links "English / German / French / ..." and clicking on such a link directly moves the reader to that part of the page so he/she doesn't have to scroll down all the way manually. https://www.sharepointdiary.com/2020/12/how-to-add-page-anchor-links-in-sharepoint-online-modern-page.html. Anchor links are part of the template "Topic" so my expectation is that they would work but in my testings they didn't work. Either something slipped by in testing or you're using another method of setting these anchor links and in that case I would be very interested in knowing how you do it so it works.
