SharePoint – including SharePoint Server and SharePoint Online as a part of Office 365 – is the most widely-deployed content services platform. In fact, 85% of the Fortune 500 is using Office 365. This creates enormous opportunities to learn from a thriving community of people in commercial and community events.
In 2017, there were 58 worldwide SharePoint Saturday community events organized through the SPSEvents.org site. Typically, these events are free for attendees. There are also numerous commercial conferences like SPTechCon, SharePoint Fest, the European SharePoint Conference where you can learn from top experts. SharePoint as a content management platform is unmatched in the degree to which its users engage with one another to share. What this means to someone trying to learn how to do enterprise content management – or content services – is that there’s a large community of people whose expertise you can pull from and people you can learn from.
YouTube reports 335,000 videos containing the keyword SharePoint (as of January 2018). SharePoint courses are available for free from massively open online course (MOOC) providers like EdX.org. Microsoft’s Certified Learning Partners deliver thousands of courses each year on Microsoft SharePoint in communities across the globe. Specialized training providers like Critical Path Training, Combined Knowledge, and Mindsharp offer their own courses either online or in person.
