Okay shreyds9, you’re right, but these advanced options still hide the ribbon options… unless, naturally you already hided it, which seems to be the UX principle that MS developers want to impose, today, to users.
After decades of good old drop-down menus completed with tools bars, they introduced with Office 2007 the (originally much confusing) ribbon; and they now try to impose a sort of come-back to a https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/use-the-simplified-ribbon-44bef9c3-295d-4092-b7f0-f471fa629a98 that is rather similar to the previous drop-down menus plus tools bar (probably because they, at last, realized that the classic ribbon occupies too much space, especially on wide 16/10 displays that were imposed as a standard on computers). I will not be surprised if in a short future they remove the classic ribbon option to impose the reduced one, explaining (like the first article of this thread) that this is a huge improvement for users experience…
I admit that the search bar (plus the drop-down advanced options) is welcome when the ribbon is hidden.
So why not consider the following compromise:
- when the ribbon is classic/developed/visible, the search bar is positioned in the ribbon, as before (for the oldies);
- when the ribbon is hidden or simplified , the search bar is positioned on top with the advanced options (for the newbies)?
