mande1191 I thank you once again for your response. Unfortunately, my copy of the new Outlook worked a bit differently than yours, and I didn't have that Drop Down choice. I checked Bing AI. The interesting response was that "this happens to some users [Editor does not work]". Their suggestion was to enable the Microsoft Editor Extension in Edge. This worked in Edge but not in Outlook. The advice continued to say: Delete new Outlook and open it from the old Outlook. My copy of office was downloaded to this new PC a month ago. The option did not appear. I did an online repair which allowed me to change to new Outlook and in doing so downloaded an up-to-date copy. Editor still did not work, but there was a new "support" option." I filed a support request and was told to go to Outlook Settings--> Privacy-->Turn on "Connected Experiences." Voila! Things are now working!!
About the double hyphen question: This is shown in the Autoformat Options
This does now work if the double hyphen is proceeded and followed by a space. I never tried the Character Mapping applet to do this in Outlook. That might work also.
Many thanks again. Hope all this will help others.
