One of our Nonprofits supports ethnically diverse populations. Their mission statement says:
"Empowering all people to express and experience our best sense of humanity. We do this by restoring, educating, and protecting survivors of human trafficking and their community.”
MCT (Microsoft Community Training) turned out to be a perfect fit for the organization as a tool to help train this underserved population. Initially they implemented the platform and started using it to train roughly 140 people in three specific areas: Racial Equity Diversity and Inclusion (Staff Training), Mentorship and Entrepreneur courses.
In discussions with the IT Director over the course of time we discovered that the additional capability of the Interface being offered in Multiple Languages turns out to be a game changer. In less than 5 minutes they were able to add Spanish, Albanian, Chinese, Somali, Vietnamese, and Tagalong as supported languages of the interface. Now menus are available for each of those languages. Content for lessons is not translated, but the interface is now readable to a whole new population of users which increases the scope of who will be able to upskill from the content the organization offers.
So how is it achieved? Here’s the step through directly from the documentation on Microsoft docs.
Steps to add languages on the platform
- Login to the Microsoft Community Training portal and switch to administrator view
- Click on Settings tab from the left navigation panel and select General option from the list
- From the Languages, select the languages you want to enable on the platform
- Note: This will enable languages only for the Web Application. To enable languages on the MobileApp, follow the steps in this article.
- Hover over the language, and click on 'Mark as Default' to make either of the selected languages as the default language on the platform
- Click on Apply Changes to publish your change.
- Caution: Ensure you click on Apply Changes. Otherwise, the changes you made will be lost.
- The selected languages will be available for the learners to select before Sign In. The "Default" language will be the first language in the list and the portal will be viewable to the learner first in that language.
- The Administrator would also be able to access the administrator view of the platform in any of the languages selected in Step 3 above.
- If the language of your choice is not available on the platform follow the steps in this article to add new languages for your platform instance
