I'm very confused about translation capabilities. This post from October 2025 says that 40 languages are available, at least on Teams Devices with Android. The Roadmap page indicates that this has begun. However, the https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/meeting-transcription-captions#live-captions in that paragraph still indicates that only 6 or 10 languages are currently supported (depending on license). https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/multilingual-speech-recognition-in-microsoft-teams-650cb6d2-8a33-40e7-840d-36bb90216aa4 says that 9 languages are supported, which is also supported by https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/interpreter-in-microsoft-teams-meetings-c7efe2bb-535d-42ab-a5c4-d2d91619b46d on the Interpreter Agent. At Ignite 2024, they indicated support for 51 spoken languages and 31 translation languages. are coming soon. Oddly, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/supported-regions-and-languages-in-microsoft-copilot-26de43a1-c176-4908-bef7-29c8c37ac7ce it can understand 43 written languages but 64 spoken languages, which seems backwards. I understand that articles can become out of date, and that the Copilot app may have different capabilities than what is in Teams. I'm less concerned about Copilot and more concerned about live translations on Teams Rooms devices with Android and the Teams desktop application on Windows.
Can you clarify whether 40 languages are supported on Teams Rooms devices with Android today?
Can you point me to the 40 languages somewhere?
What is the status of getting support for 40+ languages in translated captions on Teams desktop application?
Is the "interpreter agent" different than the built-in capabilities of the Teams desktop application and Teams Rooms devices to translate the spoken text into subtitles of another language? If so, how do we enable this in a meeting?
Any other clarification and roadmap information you can share would be greatly appreciated. The notes on the https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap don't list language count (other than the one that aligns with this post).
Thank you!
