We are excited to announce that the new calendar in Teams is now generally available for commercial customers. The new calendar is designed for familiarity and reliability, while incorporating the latest innovations in Microsoft Copilot and Places to elevate your scheduling and time management experience.  The new calendar delivers a unified experience with Outlook, so you can enjoy the same modern and intelligent calendar across both Teams and Outlook.

Unified calendar experience

The new calendar integrates the Outlook calendar into Teams, offering a single, cohesive calendar experience. This update also brings more feature parity across the Teams and Outlook calendars. Outlook features coming to Teams include delegate access, print support, expanded calendar settings, filtering, support for multiple time zones, time suggestions in scheduling, support for attachments, and more. Let’s take a closer look at these and additional experiences coming to Teams calendar below.

Cutting-edge experiences

This evolution of the calendar empowers you to achieve more by incorporating the latest innovations from both Copilot and Places to help infuse intelligence into your time management. Copilot capabilities like managed booking are available in the new calendar experience. Places capabilities like workplace presence and the Places card are also available. With a Teams Premium license, advanced capabilities like quick book and Places finder are available in the new calendar.

Expanded calendar views

The new calendar offers several new views and navigation options:

  • Month View: View your calendar by month, a highly requested feature, especially useful for users with sparse calendars.
  • Split View: When more than one calendar is selected, you can now split the calendar into two independent views.
  • Time Scale: Specify time scales or intervals for the calendar surface
  • Saved Views: Save your current view for easy access later
  • Weather Display: See the weather for your current location directly in the calendar

Calendar settings and customization

Customize your calendar settings, including start and end times for events, location settings, and more. You can also share your calendar with others in your organization and print your entire calendar. Lastly, the new calendar can be popped out as a separate window, allowing you to multitask more effectively.

Save time with easy scheduling

Creating meetings is now more intuitive. You can quickly create a meeting from the quick view by clicking on a timeslot in your calendar or by opening the new scheduling form. The new scheduling form includes refreshed meeting options and templates for different meeting types

You can also access meeting artifacts directly from the peek view. For example, you can access the recap of a previous meeting by left-clicking on the event.

To try the new calendar in Teams:

  1. Open the Teams desktop client and navigate to the Calendar app.
  2. Click the “New Calendar” toggle in the top-right corner of the calendar surface, and the new calendar should load within a few seconds

NOTE: You can switch back whenever you want. Just switch the toggle off in the new calendar and it will automatically open the classic version.

For more details visit Microsoft Support page

With this update, we are not changing any settings for you or your organization. New calendar is an opt-in experience, so it’s ready for you when you are.

We are excited to reach this milestone and look forward to your ongoing feedback to make the new calendar the best time management experience for you and your organization.

We will continue to make feature improvements and monitor feedback, so continue to try the new calendar and let us know what you want to see next!

I am generally very happy with the new calendar. The new features are great :)
I do have a couple of questions tho.
How do I pop the new calendar out? And how does the dynamic column width work? From the name, I'd expect that the width is automatically adjusted to display the entire content instead of cutting it off (thinking excel behavior here). But in my case, today and tomorrow are displayed with the same width, although tomorrow has no entries whatsoever, while today does. The other days of the week are displayed much smaller. So maybe I don't fully understand what this feature does. I'd appreciate some context, thank you :)

MeeraAjam, I noticed that since last week, the behavior of the add-ins has changed in Teams.

Previously, when opening the Expanded Event view on Teams, one was able to see add-ins at the top ribbon. However, it seems like with the latest release of Teams, Add-ins have now been excluded from this view, and to see them, one has to open the calendar event on a separate tab. As there is no documentation for this, I'd like to know if this will be the standard future behavior, as Microsoft 365 add-ins are part of our product portfolio and an integral element on the workflow of many of our end-users, which we expect to access the add-ins via Teams on the near future.

    Looking forward to your reply!

I think I have the same issue. We were using Whiteboard in meetings quite a bit.

How do you open the calendar event on a separate tab? I was only able to switch to full screen in the calendar view, but don't see the tab there either. The only way I managed to get to the tab-view is to click on chat and in the chat-view click on meeting details to see the Whiteboard (or any other app) tab. I suppose it works that way too, but would be great to have it in the expanded event view.

        Hi CarmenMyo,

I wasn't able to open the calendar on a separate tab, but an event on the calendar. When doing so, the calendar add-ins show up. To open a calendar event in a separate window, you can do it by clicking on this button:

MeeraAjamwhen can we expect the ability to import an ics file to a calendar in Teams like we have been able to in Outlook for many years?

I think this would still be done via Outlook, it would then appear in your Teams Calendar which replicates Outlook. I'm assuming that Teams Calendar doesn't fully replace Outlook, just minimises the need to switch apps... but happy to be corrected by Microsoft

So now that we’re getting a full Outlook-parity calendar experience in Teams, are we going to eventually get a Mail tab in Teams that brings everything together in one super app?

This makes a lot of sense. I think in the future, Outlook as a separate app will be redundant, and Teams will slowly become an app launcher, now that it has nearly all Microsoft 365 apps in it. Maybe in the future, it'll be Microsoft's own future WorkOS, where "light" workers will get computers with the Teams WorkOS 😅

The new calendar is not available for us either. Could it be that the reason is that our mailboxes are still hosted on-premises?

Edit 9th Feb: Resolved - New calendar now appearing in public preview for me (in EDU)
        Edit 12th Feb: Missing again

This new feature is an absolute nightmare for the tenants that do not have the OWA enabled. When the users access their Teams, it pops up a message about the new Calendar and make users to enable it, and once user switches the toggle, it returns 400 Error message and there is no button to revert back to the origianl calendar on Teams. The only way to go back to the old calendar is to clear the cache both on Desktop teams and teams for web.

No official documents nor the announcement in message center in m365 admin center says the OWA MUST be enabled for this feature to be used and there is no option to remove or disable new Calendar toggle in the app completely for all users.

What is even crazier is that, although the tenant doesn't have have OWA enabled, there are few users who were able to access the new calendar and it took me forever to figure that the users did enable OWA once before for test purposes. Therefore, all users in the tenant currently unable to access OWA, but only few users are able to use the new calendar and rest of the users are all experiencing the 400 error and it causes so much extra time and efforts to notify users to not switch to the new Calendar. It is indeed frustrating! For all users to be able to access the new calendar, I have to enble OWA for all uesrs and somehow ask them to access it at least, which doesn't make any sense.

I'm sure you have reasons, so curious why your org would block OWA? Are all the M365 web apps blocked?

Edit 18/02/2025: The current public preview in EDU is broken, it's such a frustrating experience!
