There was a Microsoft Announcement two weeks ago using the language "we will be proceeding this week" and "January 2022":
Updated January 18, 2022: We are updating this post as a reminder to review and take action as appropriate as we will be proceeding, this week, as outlined below.
New action is required if you do not want your meeting recordings to auto-expire in January 2022.
As part of the evolution of the new Stream (https://admin.microsoft.com/Adminportal/Home?ref=MessageCenter/:/messages/MC222640), we are introducing the meeting recording auto-expiration feature, which will automatically delete Teams recording files stored in OneDrive or SharePoint after a preset period of time. Admins can disable this feature if desired.

Based on that announcement (more like a warning) I have already notified all my users of the impending auto-expiration feature.
According to your latest response above, it appears we actually won't see auto-expiration until June. Can you confirm?
