Hello,
from which customer do you have the need to have "intelligent" contacts?
A need for our company (I am assuming that other companies have this need as well) is that the contacts are working reliable. In Outlook/Teams/Office Webapps. We are often facing the issue that the contact list is simply not updating. You go in the people app and only see a few contacts. I have about 600 contacts and only 330 are appearing. If I wait for a couple of minutes, the list is updated. How can you sell this as "improved"?
Additionally, MS still have no option to sync the GAL list to our Teams. Imagine: We have some blue collars which only have mobile phones. The phone numbers are added to the users in local AD. As they are not licensed, the phone number will not be populated to M365. But you can call them via Teams and you arrive at a voicemail for a non licensed user.
Searching for resource accounts to call or forward to a auto attendant is also not implemented.
How can I explain this situation to our employees?

Hi UC-Guy,
We built a solution to address all these issues you mentioned for corporate accounts (Office 365 for companies ,not personal Outlook accounts). Check contact sync on http://www.CorpSync.com . Submit a demo request, and we can show how it works and provide you with free licenses for POC.
Having said that, the new Outlook App has its own issues with contacts (which works fine on Outlook desktop), which we raised with Microsoft and are trying to work with them to address them.
Thanks
