MicrosoftGargy_Shekhar Could you go more in-depth on how contacts added from the GAL are self-updating? I've found it to be a bit inconsistent. My end goal is for those self-updates to occur and propagate to the mobile devices through ActiveSync. I do not want to sync the entire GAL.
Here's what I've found:
In the Old Desktop App, I add the contact from the GAL, I save and close. I open the contact information and purposely change the business number to something that is incorrect. That all syncs with the Outlook Mobile App as well as my iOS device. What I expect is the GAL to either overwrite or append the correct business number to the contact. I've tried re-launching, updating the folder, creating a custom sync policy, etc. It never updates. Funny enough, if I go to outlook.office.com, the expected behavior occurs; Outlook updates from the GAL, replaces the business number with the one from the GAL, and moves the custom business number as a secondary phone. When I check the Outlook mobile app on my mobile phone, it shows the same as Outlook Online, the updated and correct information. This is also expected. Unfortunately, on iOS devices, the contact on the phone/iCloud never updates. When I re-launch the old desktop app, the update never occurs. If I go into the old Outlook Desktop app, and manually update the contact information, it updates in the old Outlook, adds a note of when it was last updated, then it finally syncs with my iOS device. How do I consistently ensure contacts added from the GAL are self-updating. Are there any limitations when it comes to self-updating? Are there any settings that need to be enabled by the user and/or admin to ensure this occurs consistently?
I only have 5 contacts, and I've waited hours for the update to occur and it never does.
Secondly, do all users need to manually enable "New Contacts" in https://outlook.office.com for self-updates to occur or is that simply for the Categories and Groups features? Is there a way to turn that feature on as a Global Admin for all users in our tenant?
