Cloud Update Reaches General Availability: Transforming Microsoft 365 Apps Management
Hi EricFromOffice - We currently use Configuration Manager for M365 Apps Updates. I wanted to pilot/test using Cloud Update because it contains some functionality like rollback and pause however I need to make sure theres no impact to existing users. From what I've read in the documentation, we can enable cloud update on the M365 Apps Admin Center page but it takes over management from ConfigMgr? Am I understanding that right?

Microsoft
Hello sthoms12 - Yes, Cloud Update delivers a series of policies to managed devices that have a higher precedence than ConfigMgr. This article has some helpful guidance on the topic: Enabling and configuring cloud update - Microsoft 365 Apps | Microsoft Learn.
If you are interested in trying Cloud Update on a test group here are a couple of options:
- Use a test tenant if available. Trial tenants work too. You just need to have a few devices with M365 Apps installed and activated on the tenant for them to appear in Inventory and be eligible for Cloud Update.
- Cloud Update is for devices on Current Channel and Monthly Enterprise Channel. If your organization hasn't moved to a monthly update channel yet, you can move a few devices at a time and evaluate Cloud Update. Switch device update channel is a great way to do this.
