Hi, Insiders! We’re Victoria Tran, Jess Kwok, and Shea Tuli, and we’re Product Managers on the PowerPoint team. We’re excited to share an update with you that allows you to steer your presentation length, tone, style, and images when creating presentations with Microsoft 365 Copilot in PowerPoint for Windows, for Mac, and for the web.
Steer length, tone, style, and images when creating a PowerPoint presentation with Copilot
Many of you have asked for the ability to choose the length and tone of your presentation when leveraging the “Create a new presentation” capability in PowerPoint – we’re thrilled that this is now an option! When prompting Copilot, you can pick between short, medium, and long lengths, and select the voice of your message, such as whether you’d prefer a professional, conversational, persuasive, or uplifting tone. We also have some new presentation styles optimized for Copilot to select from, and offer AI-generated images as an image source alongside stock and brand images (learn more about setting up your organization’s assets library).
We understand that crafting a presentation that perfectly conveys your message to the right audience – while keeping it visually polished – can feel overwhelming and require significant time and effort. Together, these features give you more control and enable you to:
- Deliver clear and engaging messages tailored to your audience
- Make slides faster and with greater precision
- Turn rough ideas into structured presentations with minimal manual work
How it works
- Open a new presentation in PowerPoint for Windows, for Mac, or for the web.
- Click the Sparkle icon above the slide, then select Create a new presentation in the dropdown menu.
NOTE: You can also select Create with Copilot from the Home or New pages on Windows.
- In the Create a presentation about box, describe what topic(s) you’d like Copilot to focus on. To have Copilot build off of existing content, select Reference files to browse files on your device or on OneDrive or SharePoint. You can also type / + [the file name] to search for a specific file.
NOTE: This feature currently only supports Word, PDF, Excel, Loop, and TXT files, with more file support coming soon.
- Select Length in the lower right-hand corner, then choose between Short (3-8 slides), Medium (9-17 slides), and Long (18+ slides), or choose Suggested to have Copilot decide the length of the presentation.
- Select the Send arrow in the lower right-hand corner, and Copilot will draft an outline for you.
- In the upper right-hand corner of the outline, select Tone, then choose between Conversational, Professional, Persuasive, and Uplifting, or choose Suggested to have Copilot decide the tone of the presentation. Then, select Regenerate to see your new outline.
- Under the Presentation style section, choose from Recommended styles or from your organization’s templates.
- Under the Image preferences section, select the image source you’d like to use in your presentation: AI-generated images, Stock images, Brand images, or Stock and Brand images. If you select AI-generated images, you can also select an image style, such as Cinematic and Whimsical 3D.NOTE: For some presentation styles, Brand images may not be supported.
- When you’ve finished selecting your design elements, click Generate slides to create the presentation.
