Its almost like you have nothing to do so the Teams development team all get together and agree that this change will make things better . IT DOES NOT.... it confuses the FU#K out of people. Chat is Chat and the Teams Channels are two separate functions and thus should be separated . I now all my users advising they have lost all their teams after the update! If you make a change like this , give us the ability to turn it off if we dislike your update .... which is **bleep** by the way!

You can switch combined chat and channels off and on in Settings > Chats and Channels > Viewing chats and channels. Choose either combined or separate.
Before you do, you can show only chats or only channels with one click, using the filters. Then you effectively see the same thing as if they were separate apps again. But now you’ll be able view all unread posts. Or all posts that mention you.
I agree with your frustration though about the new experience being rolled out the way it has been. I am hearing reports of it being turned on even when people opt-out using the welcome screen.
This update 'forces' the combined view and filters most Teams and is quite frankly awful.
Undoing "Settings > Chats and Channels > Viewing chats and channels" does not undo the damage done by this change, When you switch the view off, you are still left with a filtered view of Teams that is different than before that requires multiple clicks to undo. It is much worse than the previous UI which defaulted to 'show' and left it to the user to hide.
This update assumes that you only want to see teams you're actively participating in. It does not consider workloads where occasional check-ins are needed (War-Room Teams, Bi-Annual Check in teams, Teams for alerts, Teams used for quarterly reporting (think Taxes)).
For me personally, I just spent 20+ minutes going through multiple clicks to 'undo' the carte blanche hiding. I dread training my users on it.
