Hi, Microsoft 365 Insiders! We’re excited to let you know that you can now control the volume ratio between the original meeting audio and the interpretation audio in Teams meetings, making the experience more useful and effective.

Control volume ratio setting when using language interpretation in Teams

Language interpretation in Microsoft Teams facilitates clear and efficient communication, enabling more inclusive meetings with a multilingual audience. This feature allows professional interpreters to translate meeting speaker’s words into another language in real time, without disrupting their flow of delivery.

We have heard from some of you that you would like to adjust the volume ratio between the meeting audio and the language interpretation feed when participating in multilingual meetings, increasing or decreasing the sound volume as needed. We’re happy to deliver!

How it works

1. When joining a meeting that has enabled language interpretation, select the language you want to listen to.

NOTE: You can also select More > Language and speech > Language interpretation to choose the language you want at any time during the meeting.

2. To adjust the volume ratio between the original meeting audio and the interpretation audio, drag the control slider under Balance volume in the Choose interpretation language dialog box. You can preview the audio in your selected language in real time and save your changes when you’re satisfied with the settings.

Requirements

Meeting organizers must enable language interpretation when setting up the meeting.

Availability

To use the new feature, you must be a member of the Teams Public Preview or Microsoft 365 Targeted release and use the new Teams client for Windows or MacOS. Other meeting participants aren’t required to be members of the Teams Public Preview.

To enable your Teams client for the Public Preview, IT administrators must enable Show preview features in their update policy. Learn more

For Targeted release, global admins can go to the Microsoft 365 admin center and give access to a select set of individuals or the entire organization. Learn more

Feedback

We want to hear from you! Select Settings and more > Feedback in the top right corner of the Teams app, and then select either Report a problem, Give a compliment, or Suggest a feature to share your thoughts.
