Hey there, Microsoft 365 Insiders! We are Raghavendra Gade, a Product Manager, and Ayushi Singh, a Product Designer, on the Word team. We are excited to announce a significant enhancement that will make creating tables in Word for Android and iOS simpler and more efficient.

Add custom tables to Word for Android and iOS documents

There are more than a million tables inserted monthly in Word for Android and iOS documents, making them one of the most frequently used elements. However, many of you have told us that the existing process of adding tables is cumbersome. Previously, you had to first insert a default 3x3 table, and then manually adjust the rows and columns, which can be time-consuming and challenging, especially on a small screen.

To simplify table creation and improve the overall user experience, we’re introducing a more intuitive way to insert tables. You can now customize the number of rows and columns before adding a table, making the process faster, more efficient, and tailored to your needs.

How it works

  1. Open the document in which you want to insert a table on your Android or iOS device.
  2. Tap to place the cursor where you want to insert the table, then tap Insert > Table.
  3. Specify the number of rows and columns you want, then tap the Insert Table button.

The custom table is inserted in the document and ready to be updated with your content!

Availability

Custom tables are currently being rolled out to Word users using an Android phone or iPhone and running:

  • Android: Build 16.0.18224.41005 or later
  • iOS: Version 2.89 (Build 24082417) or later

Custom tables are not currently available on Android tablets and iPad.

Try this new feature out and let us know what you think!

  • Android: Select Settings > Send feedback to Microsoft, and then either Give a compliment, Report a problem, or Make a suggestion. Add details and submit your feedback.
