Hello Microsoft Community and Support Staff, I am writing to report a critical and seemingly widespread issue with the pen input on the brand-new Surface Pro for Business, 13-inch (Intel model, often called Surface Pro 11 "Luna Lake"). The Core Problem: Pen Draws Without Touching the Screen When using the Surface Slim Pen 2, the device begins to register ink input while the pen is still hovering a few millimeters above the screen. It does not require any physical contact or pressure. This "hover-inking" makes handwriting completely unusable. As I write, any time I lift the pen to start a new letter or stroke, the pen continues to draw a line as it moves through the air to its next position. This results in messy, connected handwriting with unwanted "tails," completely defeating the purpose of having a premium inking device. This is Not a Defective Unit - It's a Replicable Problem Initially, I thought I had a faulty device. However, to isolate the issue, I have performed extensive testing: I have personally tested this on [3] brand-new Surface Pro 11 (Intel) devices. I have used [4] different Slim Pen 2s. The exact same hover-inking problem occurred on every single combination of device and pen. Furthermore, I have already performed all standard troubleshooting steps, including: Clean OS installation via Surface Recovery Image. Ensuring all Windows, driver, and firmware updates are installed. Running the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (which reported no errors). However, the same issue continues to occur even after trying these methods. Additionally, it has been reported that the issue also appears on the latest Surface Pro 12-inch model with the Snapdragon X Plus, just like on the Surface Pro 11 that uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite instead of Intel’s Lunar Lake. (I do not own any Snapdragon devices myself. If you own a Snapdragon device and are experiencing the same issue, please share your feedback.)" Video Evidence: I have recorded a clear video demonstrating the problem. It shows the pen drawing while hovering on the Surface Pro 11 and makes unwanted tails on handwriting letters. What are the official steps to escalate this issue directly to the Surface engineering team for a fix? This is a major flaw in a flagship product that severely impacts its core functionality. I have submitted a formal bug report through the Feedback Hub, which can be found here: Feedback Hub Link: https://aka.ms/AAxzh27 I urge the Microsoft team to investigate this with high priority and release a firmware or software update to recalibrate the pen's Initial Activation Force (IAF). Thank you for your attention to this serious matter.48Views1like1CommentPlease add "undo" feature to PDF inking
Add "undo" feature to PDF inking so that when we accidentally erase/remove something (inking, highlight etc) we be able to undo it, also would be useful to use the "undo" feature for when we add inking so instead of using eraser we just undo the action. the undo feature can either be tied to the usual CTRL + Z shortcut or a button on the PDF toolbar in Edge. (also sent using feedback button on Edge)12KViews18likes12CommentsPDF inking feedback
Just a list of nice little touches that are missing in the new Edge PDF inking experience, as compared to the old Edge, and which would be nice to implement: There was an option to allow inking input from only the pen and not touch, allowing the user to scroll with touch and ink with pen. Very useful feature. In the new Edge, when inking is turned on, it accepts both pen and touch input at once. A smoothing filter was applied to strokes in the old Edge: strokes in the new Edge are wobblier and thus less readable There was some amount of pressure sensitivity and/or falloff tapering of strokes in the old Edge, again making things more readable in the old one. Thanks for all your work improving the new Edge!1.5KViews3likes3CommentsFeature request - PDF toolbar should be floating
Deleted The pdf toolbar should be floating as in the legacy edge browser, however in the chromium edge browser it remains in the same position whether pinned or not. Only content position is changed. It would be awesome if it is made floating.1.3KViews3likes2CommentsProblem in Edge Feedback
When sending feedback using Edge feedback button and try to highlight or draw on the screenshot, we have limited color and the inking is very bad, it is so jagged and uneven. compare this is from Edge feedback: This is from Snipping tools in Windows 10: very smooth and variety of available colors. another problem is that the mouse pointer turns into a cross when inking on the Edge feedback screenshot, it should stay in arrow shape.1.5KViews1like2CommentsFeature suggestion to Improve Eraser tool for PDF Inking/Web page inking and other inkings
The eraser tool in Microsoft Whiteboard is really brilliant, unique and very convenient to use. on the other hand, eraser tool in Edge is static and needs SO much improvements. on Edge when you draw a big shape or write a long sentence etc, you can't erase only part of it like a letter or single line, the whole thing/shape/writing gets deleted when you touch any edge of it. so my suggestion is to implement this eraser tool and replace it with eraser tool in Edge which is for PDF inking, future web page inking and any other kinds of inking that needs an eraser please watch the video to see what I mean: https://streamable.com/ohyn6h1.7KViews2likes3CommentsPDF Inking on the new Edge is compatible with legacy Edge
I just realized this cool feature. Inking and drawings done on a PDF file in the new (Chromium based) Edge can be erased in the legacy Edge, and vice versa. Highlighted texts in either of the browsers can also be modified And removed in the other browser. lastly, added sticky notes in Edge classic on a PDF file can also be seen on the new Edge. This looks so good! loving it previously we only had one single color and it was blue, weren't able to change thickness. this is on Edge insider Version 81.0.389.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit) p.s it could be a controlled feature rollout. so might or might not be available to everyone.5.5KViews2likes12CommentsPDF Inking's INK sometimes depletes in Edge canary
It's true, literally, when I draw on PDF, after some time, the INK depletes. yes I'm talking about the virtual Ink. so few minutes ago I was just pointlessly drawing on a piece of PDF and I noticed the Ink is no more drawing. when I click nothing happens. changing colors or thickness doesn't help. i closed the PDF then opened another, same result after drawing on it for a while. Is there really a limitation for the virtual Ink on Edge PDF reader? Why? Version 81.0.410.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit)1.4KViews0likes2Comments
