conditional access
697 TopicsRestrict some devices
Hi All I hope you are well. Anyway, I'm looking for some advice. We have identified some Intune enrolled, Entra ID joined devices that may be security risks (malware) and would like to restrict these devices from accessing things like M365 apps, Azure VPN etc etc. What's the best way to achieve this? Conditional Access and target a group with the devices as members? Info appreciated80Views0likes5Comments👉 Microsoft Entra in Action: From Conditional Access to Identity Protection
One of the areas I’m most passionate about is identity-driven security. Microsoft Entra makes it possible to apply Zero Trust principles directly at the identity layer. ⚡ Conditional Access – the backbone of modern access policies. 👤 Privileged Identity Management (PIM) – ensuring just-in-time, least privilege for admins. 🛡️ Identity Protection – risk-based policies to stop compromised sign-ins in real time. In my labs, I’ve seen how these features transform security posture without adding friction for users. Coming soon: - Step-by-step breakdown of a risky user detection scenario. - A visual guide to Conditional Access controls for critical apps. Would love to exchange insights with others experimenting in this space — what Entra features are you finding most impactful? #MicrosoftEntra | #ConditionalAccess | #IdentityProtection | #MicrosoftLearn | #PerparimLabs121Views0likes3CommentsUnable to add Azure Virtual Desktop Client Enterprise App to Conditional Access
We currently use conditional access to allow certain contractors to sign into VMs, and from these VMs, access other MS Apps. Currently we block all applications from outside the VM ip range, but exclude the Virtual desktop applications to allow the users to do the initial signin to the VM. When contractors are using the Virtual Desktop app, it seems to work ok. However, recently when signing in via the browser only and launching from there, the conditional access rule is blocking them as the application ID isn't in the exclude list, and we are unable to add it: a85cf173-4192-42f8-81fa-777a763e6e2c The documentation: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/set-up-mfa?tabs=avd shows that web signins may originate from this application ID, but without the ability to add this to the exclusion apps, we cannot find another workaround that allows access via the browser. I also tried adding this app in to the policy via GraphAPI, but I get an error saying that this first party application isn't allowed. I need to know if there is another workaround or if Microsoft are planning to add this to the CA compatibility list? I'm not sure why some of the Virtual desktop apps are there but this one is not.2.1KViews1like2CommentsHow to handle MFA for a shared account?
Hello, We have a business need where some users need to share an Entra ID account for Dynamics 365. I am trying to figure out how to handle MFA for a shared account and what's the best practice in such cases. We could setup the MFA for this account to the admins' phones, but this will only create headache for those admins (when they're out of office, travelling etc.). Any advice would be appreciated.Solved883Views0likes3CommentsMicrosoft Intune Company Portal for Linux and Conditional Access Issue
Greetings everyone, I have the following scenario implemented regarding conditional access: Rule#1: For pilotuser1, for all cloud apps, for all platforms --> require MFA Rule#2: For pilotuser1, for all cloud apps except Microsoft Intune Enrollment and Microsoft Intune, for all platforms --> Require Device marked as compliant This should allow me to enroll to Intune successfully a non-enrolled device and require the device compliance for the other workloads. For Windows it works just fine. The problem lies with Linux. Following the instructions on Enroll a Linux device in Intune | Microsoft Learn & Get the Microsoft Intune app for Linux | Microsoft Learn I installed Intune App and Edge (Version 109.0.1518.52 (Official build) (64-bit)) on a VM with Ubuntu 22.04. I open the Intune App and try to sign in: First step is to Register the Device on Azure AD, it goes without a problem --> On the next stage I get the following and press continue: At this stage Microsoft Edge opens and I sign in successfully but the Intune App throws an error: The sign in logs on Azure AD show that even though I excluded Intune Enrollment from the CA policy, it is not enough. Sign-in error code: 530003 Failure reason: Your device is required to be managed to access this resource. Additional Details: The requested resource can only be accessed using a compliant device. The user is either using a device not managed by a Mobile-Device-Management (MDM) agent like Intune, or it's using an application that doesn't support device authentication. The user could enroll their devices with an approved MDM provider, or use a different app to sign in, or find the app vendor and ask them to update their app. More details available at https://docs.microsoft.com/azure/active-directory/active-directory-conditional-access-device-remediation Application: Microsoft Intune Company Portal for Linux Application ID: b743a22d-6705-4147-8670-d92fa515ee2b Resource : Microsoft Graph Resource ID: 00000003-0000-0000-c000-000000000000 Client app: Mobile Apps and Desktop clients Client credential type: None Resource service principal ID: 01989347-a263-48ef-a8d7-583ee83db9a2 Token issuer type: Azure AD Apparently something is different in the enrollment process of Linux because I had no issues with Windows 10 enrollment . Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated. Kind Regards, Panos15KViews1like17CommentsConflict status after having 2 Local user group membership Policy
Hello, I have an issue with applying two "Local User Group Membership" policies on a PC. The Intune policy report shows a conflict between having two "Local User Group Membership" policies despite having different configurations. For example, one is a Global Policy, which applies an admin privilege to all PCs, and the other one is more specific to a certain group, and it is just about giving remote access to the PCs on this group. So, my question is, why does Intune mark these two policies as a conflict of each other? If it is not possible to have two "Local User Group Membership" policies applying to the PC. Is there a way to have a global policy for admin users on the PC and one more private policy for remote user access using "Local User Group Membership"?2.5KViews0likes15CommentsConditional access, Persistant Browser sessions and Azure File shares in Storage Accounts
Hello, I am in the process of doing a POC for Azure file sync from DFS to Azure file shares with a end goal of using Azure files shares and getting rid of DFS. I want to use Entra for identity access. One of the changes I need to make is set Persistant browser session in our MFA all user policy to "Never" so that the storage enterprise app does not get targeted for MFA, otherwise it wont work. How do I go about doing this without effecting any other users as it's a global policy. I know I need to do this because I get this error when I add the Storage Account ent app to the targeted resources (formerly cloud apps) exclusion list; "Message from server: The server could not process the request because it is malformed or incorrect. 1032: ConditionalActionPolicy validation failed due to InvalidConditionsForPersistentBrowserSessionMode." Any ideas of how to get around this without affecting anyone else and only target the storage account ent app. Cheers148Views0likes1CommentWindows App Application Protection Policy
I have been testing out an Intune MAM policy to restrict copy/paste and drive redirection to AVD session hosts based on the link here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-app/require-device-security-compliance-intune?tabs=web#related-contentHowever, I've run into problems (in two separate tenants) that have halted me from being able to test. Setup Intune App Protection Policy targeting Windows Devices & Microsoft Edge\ Conditional Access Policy enforcing App Protection Policy when users access 'Azure Virtual Desktop' target resource via https://windows.cloud.microsoft.com Results First When signing into a user account targeted by the policy, they are prompted to Switch Edge Profile which signs in the user to a new Edge profile for 'Work or School Account'. The account has to sign in again. The account can access Windows App resources When launching a desktop session, this authentication page pops up for an account "local@debugonly" Second When signing into a user account targeted by the policy, they are prompted to Switch Edge Profile which signs in the user to a new Edge profile for 'Work or School Account'. The account has to sign in again. After sign in, the account loops with 'Switch Edge Profile' and gets stuck here I'm curious if anyone has gotten this to work and what was your setup? Or if Microsoft or provide some assistance or if this is in the wrong forum, any help would be appreciated.74Views0likes0CommentsSecurity Best Practices for Bookings Page's Mailbox Objects in Entra ID
Hi, are there any recommendations / best practices for hardening the user objects that are created in Entra ID when I create a new Microsoft Bookings page? Unlike regular shared mailboxes, the sign-in is enabled by default, I can simply reset the password, sign in via Outlook Web and see the Microsoft Bookings calendar. Bad actors could brute force this sign-in, register the MFA authentication method of their choice and gather data of the customers that used my public bookings page. What is the recommeded way to handle these objects in Entra ID? Conditional Access settings? Azure Monitoring alerts for sign-ins? Defender alerts for when an inbox rule is created? Kind regards, YaseminSolved188Views0likes2CommentsConditional Access Policies, Guest Access and the "Microsoft Invitation Acceptance Portal"
Hello Identity Experts, We are expanding access to our M365 resources to Guests and as such we are modifying our existing CA policies to provide the appropriate restrictions and controls. We are using principles of least privilege best practices to BLOCK All Cloud Apps for Guests (With Exceptions) and REQUIRE MFA for Guests. We've followed a number of blogs detailing the same essential set of policies / well-known identity pros: https://danielchronlund.com/2020/11/26/azure-ad-conditional-access-policy-design-baseline-with-automatic-deployment-support/ The idea is to allow guests to access Office 365 and My Apps (and AIP) but block all others plus require MFA for guests. Seems pretty straightforward and again we've seen this implemented and suggested by a number of experts. This doesn't work however and we've had a colleague test this in a separate tenant with just these two policies enabled. What is happening is that Guests, while redeeming their invitation, are triggering the BLOCK All Cloud Apps for Guests policy when they access the "Microsoft Invitation Acceptance Portal". This App is, unfortunately, one that cannot be excluded from CA policy (there is no target available for it). Guests receive the "You don't have access to this" error with the AppName = Microsoft Invitation Acceptance Portal and error 53003 in the AAD sign-in logs (along with the fact that the BLOCK policy caused the failure). What is also odd is that if the Guest returns to the invitation link, they can then complete the registration. Something is off/wrong and we're curious if anyone else has encountered this using these policies. Thanks in advance!Solved18KViews0likes7Comments
