Hello Windows Server Insiders! Today we are pleased to release a new build of the next Windows Server Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) Preview that contains both the Desktop Experience and Server Core installation options for Datacenter and Standard editions, and Azure Edition (for VM evaluation only). Branding has not yet been updated and remains as Windows Server 2022 in this preview - when reporting issues please refer to "VNext" rather than Windows Server 2022 which is currently in market. What's New Azure Arc-enabled Servers onboarding experience is now available in the latest Windows Server Insider Desktop build. Find the new Azure Arc icon in the system tray (bottom right corner of the taskbar). Try installing and configuring the (free) Azure Connected Machine Agent using the Azure Arc Setup wizard that can be launched from the system tray icon. Once Azure Arc is enabled on your server, find status information in the system tray icon. Server Datacenter Insiders! Take Terminal command line utility on Windows Server for a test run! Search for "Terminal" on the latest Server Datacenter Insider build and launch the application. Storage Replica Enhanced Log is now available in the latest Windows Server Insider build. Enhanced Log provides improved performance for block replication by removing file system abstractions – and their performance costs – from the Storage Replica log implementation. More info, and deployment instruction, is available on Learn: link. Known Issues If you are validating upgrades from Windows Server 2019 or 2022, we do not recommend that you use this build as intermittent upgrade failures have been identified for this build. This build has an issue where archiving eventlogs with "wevetutil al" command causes the Windows Event Log service to crash, and the archive operation to fail. The service must be restarted by executing "Start-Service EventLog" from an administrative command line prompt. If you have Secure Launch/DRTM code path enabled, we do not recommend that you install this build. Available Downloads Downloads to certain countries may not be available. I still have hopes. The dynamic VHDX container is so useful however it has a big downfall as it cannot shrink. Adding data into a dynamic VHDX keeps it expanding in size even if you delete data from it. This often gives ridiculous results when there is a 500 GB VHDX container containing only serverl GBs of data. I know that shrinking is possible with an awkward procedure of taking the VHDX offline, defragment it, null free space (with external tool as Windows cannot do that) and then use a Poweshell command and hope the size gets reduced. But we have 2021 now and there should be a way of self-shrinking dynamic VHDX that never occupis more space than data in it requires. And if data is reduced, it shrinks without any required interation. Otherwise this 'dynamic' VHDX is just a sad joke.4.2KViews1like1CommentIso of buld 20282 brokern?
I have tried several times to download the iso for the build 20282 of Windows Server vNext LTSC. One of them was via Microsoft Edge, on the previous Windows Server vNext LTSC build. I tested if the iso downloaded properly by un-zipping the iso with 7zip. It gave erros on multiple files. So, deleted the iso, then downloaded it again, on another machine that has Ubuntu 20.04 as the only os and used Firefox to download the iso. After the download, transfered the iso to an external hard drive, then to the Windows Server testing machine. When I un-zipped using 7zip, I got the same error message. Burn it to a DVD RW and tried to install from scratch, it failed to boot. Tried an in-place upgrade using both the setup file on the base of the installing DVD, then the setup file in the sources folder. Both were not working. The iso files might be broken.Solved3.9KViews0likes13CommentsWEC Server question
Hi I am in the process of setting up a WEC server. I am filtering the subscription by event ID. When filtering by these ID's: 19,20,41,43,59,80,104,1000,1001,1002,1006,1007,1008,1009,1074,1100,1102,1102,1116,1117,1118,1119 Every thing works greats. If I add even a single ID from the list below everything stops and no new events are logged: 4103,4104,4610,4612,4616,4624,4625,4627,4648,4649,4662,4664,4672,4697,4698,4699,4700,4701,4702,4703,4706,4707,4715,4719,4720,4722,4723,4724,4726,4727,4728,4729,4730,4731,4732,4733,4734,4735,4737,4738,4739,4740,4741,4742,4743,4754,4755,4756,4757,4758,4764,4765,4766,4768,4769,4770,4771,4772,4773,4774,4775,4776,4777,4778,4779,4780,4794,4797,4798,4799,4825,4830,4865,4866,4867,4887,4888,5024,5025,5136,5137,5138,5139,5140,5141,5142,5143,5144,5145,5632,5633,5861,6006,6416,7000,7009,7040,7045,8000,30622,30624 I have split down the event ID's into different subscription's and tried just using random ones from the list of event's that are not working but nothing. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Any help would be appreciated. Kind regardsSolved1.9KViews1like2CommentsPreview Build 17639: "DSC-Service" feature missing a DLL in WinSxS
Short Version: Build 17639, both the LTSC and Semi-Annual versions, is missing the following DLL in the WinSxS folder: Microsoft.Powershell.DesiredStateConfiguration.Service.resources.dll It is normally located here: C:\Windows\WinSxS\msil_microsoft.powershel..r.managed.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.0_en-us_a944edf580471efa Long Version: I'm testing build 17639 of Windows Server to try out the new SQL Server support for the local pull server feature of DSC. I was trying to use the xDscWebService resource within the xPSDesiredStateConfiguration module (version 8.1.0.0), which is the "usual" way of installing a pull server, but I manually ran "Add-WindowsFeature Dsc-Service" before running the script with the xDscWebService configuration. Mostly, I did this just to check out the files, compare versions, etc. But once I ran the script, it failed with an error: PowerShell DSC resource MSFT_xDSCWebService failed to execute Set-TargetResource functionality with error message: ERROR: C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\modules\PSDesiredStateConfiguration\PullServer\en\Microsoft.Powershell.DesiredStateConfiguration.Service.Resources.dll does not exist This DLL is copied from WinSxS into the path in the error above when you install the Dsc-Service feature. I then compared this to a GA version of Server 2016 (non-Core but I don't think it matters), and that file does exist in WinSxS: I did check the build 17639 system and that DLL is nowhere to be found in WinSxS, or anywhere else, on that server. I created the "en" directory as described in the error, copied the DLL over from the build 14393 server shown in the picture above into that "en" directory, and the resource was then able to create the pull server successfully. Additionally, it actually functions and writes to SQL Server as promised; bonus! This post may be light on the info, sorry, but really it's just one bug report: that DLL is missing from WinSxS and is therefore not added during the installation of the Dsc-Service feature. Edit: Sorry, had the wrong PowerShell window capture in there...1.8KViews0likes0Commentsfresh windows server install help
