Virtual Machine Manager

I recently upgraded my SCVMM 2022 instance to 2025. I have a few Service Templates for lab/test purposes that expedite deployments such as installing the first DC in a new AD forest. I wanted to upgrade these Service Templates to work with Win2025 guest VMs so I built a new syspreped Windows Server 2025 image, and copied my "New Forest DC" Service Template so it could utilize a Win2025 guest. After a lot of troubleshooting, I found that SCVMM 2025 seems to fail to be able to configure a Win2025 guest. I originally thought there may be an issue with my Application Confg scripts that install the ADDS role and install the first DC. However, after removing those scripts and just trying to install Rolls and Features under the OS Configuration options, they appear to fail as well. Has anyone had any success deploying a Service Template with Win2025 guests VMs? Simple test to try to reproduce: Create a syspreped image .VHDK file with Windows Server 2025 (I've tested with both Gen2 and Gen1) Create a Service Template to deploy one guest VM Machine Tier. Add a few Windows Roles and Features (I'm adding ADDS, DNS, GPMC and the management tools) Example screenshot below. Deploy the service. For me, the VM deploys properly but the Service Template eventually fails and no roles are installed as it hangs on the deploy applications task. (2nd screenshot below). This works just fine with a Windows Server 2022 image. Can anyone else reproduce this? Did I miss something that is needed in the guest image? Thanks in advance.Solved619Views0likes4CommentsMulticast Traffic Management in Hyper-V and SCVMM
I have a question regarding the management of multicast traffic in a Hyper-V environment. I've been researching how multicast works with virtual switches and the role of IGMP snooping. From what I understand, multicast traffic is primarily managed at the switch level through IGMP snooping, rather than being directly managed by Hyper-V or SCVMM. Is this correct? Can someone confirm whether the effective management of multicast traffic relies more on the configuration of physical network switches rather than on Hyper-V or SCVMM settings? Additionally, if there are any specific configurations I should be aware of in Hyper-V or SCVMM to ensure proper multicast functionality, I would appreciate your insights!201Views1like1CommentVMM 2022. Error (2912) of migration VMs (VMWare to Hyper-V)
Hi, there are Windows Server 2022 Hyper-V Hosts + VMM 2022 error of migration VMs (VMWare to Hyper-V) Error (2912) An internal error has occurred trying to contact the 'Host_FDQN' server: : . WinRM: URL: [http://Host_FDQN:5985], Verb: [INVOKE], Method: [CreateHttpPostClientJob], Resource: [http://schemas.microsoft.com/wbem/wsman/1/wmi/root/scvmm/HttpPostDeploymentJob] The remote procedure call failed (0x800706BE) Recommended Action Check that WS-Management service is installed and running on server 'Host_FDQN'. For more information use the command "winrm helpmsg hresult". If 'Host_FDQN' is a host/library/update server or a PXE server role then ensure that VMM agent is installed and running. Does anyone know if Microsoft brings support for Windows Server 2025 guest virtual machines for System Center 2019 Virtual Machine Manager? With Update Rollup 4 in July 2022 Microsoft added support to manage Windows Server 2022 & Windows 11 guest virtual machines. Thank you for any news. Kind regards Patrick129Views0likes0CommentsVMM Module in PowerShell 7
With the latest news in the tech industry, when can we expect to see the System Center PowerShell modules to be supported in PowerShell 7.0? I believe MECM/MEM works in pwsh7 already but VMM doesn't at this point. Requiring a Windows machine to use the VMM module doesn't make a ton of sense.818Views1like4CommentsSC VMM how to get VM console on Vmware hosts
I have imported some Vmware clusters into SC Virtual Machine Manager. I am running the most recent rollup of SC VMM 2019. The release notes claim that it supports up to VMware 8. My vcenter is 6.7 and my esxi cluster/hosts are 6.7. How can I get the console of a Vmware VM to work? From the VMM client, on the VM when I go to "Connect or view" -> "Connect via Console". It tells me I need to install an active-x plugin. That plugin doesnt exist because of course I'm running Vcenter 6.7 and ESXI 6.7 which don't use active-x plugins. How do I attach to the console of a Vmware VM from SCVMM?293Views0likes0CommentsAzure not collecting custom log data
Hi, I'm creating a custom log on my windows VM and would like to query it on monitor log. I've set up my custom log files just as Microsoft tell us to do on this archive https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/platform/data-sources-custom-logs all went well and my custom log are there in the log analytics schema, but when I run the query from monitor log, no data are returned even if there are records inside my actual log files. my situation is : 1. I've upload the sample files on UTF-8 encoded file and the actual log file are also UTF-8 encoded 2.I put my log files on G:\Logs\ folder 3.My VM are already connected to log analytics. Even tried to reconnect it once but nothing change. 4.Some people said that it will take a while for azure monitor to collect my custom log data. but it's been 2 days and I don't think it would be taking that long. so I'm wondering if there are people in the community whose having the same problem as I do, or if there are someone who knows how to fix this. regards,Solved19KViews1like8CommentsSCVMM 2019 install wizard not opening
Hi Guys, I'm currently installing some new management servers with WS2022 and want to install our System Center tools. I'm struggling with installing it as the wizard simply closes down after pressing install - on different forums, its mentioned that the 2019 versions of System center tools is not compatible with WS2022, but I wondered if there is a way around that? or if I need to wait until SCVMM 2022 comes out? I've checked the install guide published by microsoft and made sure the dependencies are correctly installed https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center/vmm/plan-install?view=sc-vmm-2019 Does any of you have experience with this? thanks in advance!899Views0likes0CommentsSCVMM - Linux Agent Support for Netplan
Netplan is the default network interface manager in Ubuntu Server 19.04 (and I believe 18.04). Using a VM template in SCVMM 2019 w/ the Linux image installed on the template, if specify a static IP from the configured pool in the fabric, the interfaces are configured /etc/networks/interfaces -- when netplan is used in a distribution, the classic interface configuration file is ignored and instead IPs must be configured at /etc/netplan/*.yaml followed by a `netplan apply` to commit those changes. Are there any plans for SCVMM [2019] to support Netplan or are there alternatives to configure netplan during the deployment process (the VM will otherwise pick up a DHCP address if a DHCP server is configured on the subnet or obtain no network connectivity)?1.5KViews0likes2CommentsSystem Center 2019 – What’s new
Microsoft just launched Windows Server 2019 and Windows Admin Center, which also raised the interest in System Center 2019. At Microsoft Ignite, Microsoft was talking about what is new in System Center 2019, the future of System Center, and how it fits in with Windows Admin Center and other management tools. Check out what is new in System Center 2019 here: https://www.thomasmaurer.ch/2018/12/system-center-2019/5.1KViews1like2Comments
