Some YouTube videos only play audio, no video, in Edge v116
ISSUE There is an issue in the Edge 116 stable-release with some YouTube videos. Some videos that used to play without-issue in the 115 release no-longer work in the 116 release: the audio on such videos will play, but not the video. Even most adverts on YouTube are affected! Here is an example video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nydwk87iEuM ("5 Monster Waves Caught On Camera" by "Underworld") Here you can see that video in the latest Edge and Firefox browsers: CODEC AND APP-VERSION INFO The "stats for nerds" YouTube feature reports the following codecs for that video: Edge: av01.0.04M.08 (397) / opus (251) Firefox: av01.0.01M.08 (396) / opus (251) And I am using the following software-versions: Edge: 116.0.1938.62 (Official build) (64-bit) Firefox:117.0 (non-ESR) x64 Windows:10 Home 22H2 x64 (Build 19045.3324) TROUBLESHOOTING I have already tried turning "Use hardware acceleration when available" off, and restarting Edge, but it made no-difference. I then turned it back on, but it made no-difference. In edge://flags I have tried turning "Hardware-accelerated video decode" to Disabled, but it made no-difference. I tried it on this video that has captions available on YouTube and is in English, but it didn't work, so I'm not sure how and where it will appear, maybe not fully implemented in this build yet and will become usable in the future build. I'm also not sure whether this means Edge will just take the caption from a video like in YouTube and show it over the PiP, Or, it actually translates the voice of the video into captions and shows it to user which would be totally awesome (using speech to text capabilities). Edge will support inline playback of these videos. (Note: Users should have permission to access the video(URL) to be able to view it.) available on: Mac, Windows I added a 1080p mp4 file. you can move the video comment to anywhere on the screen, also can watch the video comment in full screen. Suggestion (SS):40Classification: DATAHOARDING On Vivaldi i see different people posting other suggestions related to hoarding, so i decided to post here my other suggestions too (part 1 https://link.ws/edgess11), even if i know not all users will use it. I know that such suggestions can be reached (or at least in some parts) via scripts, extensions, terminal or macapps and are not the main focus of browsers. Said that, if you are interested read the post, otherwise skip it. I give you simply ideas, and such ideas are really hoarding focused. I know that this is maybe not legal for all websites too. those are just ideas. First we start with a feature that i never discovered before and after trying it i discovered in opera for mac we need to useoption. i tried on edge and is not supported 2) i already talked about overlay button with both integration to mac or to onedrive as destination, or save to different folders in right menu, or drag drop download, or other https://link.ws/edgedatahoarder. another option would be to add a download button below each video and photo, no matter where. 3) about a smart select feature i already reported you before. Implemented on datahoarding activities means select 20 links and download all pdf at the same time (or other files). 4) a feature to detect images, document, movies, pdf in the site and download all that at once, or download only pdf for example. Please add (if possible) a way to disable trackpad gesture in edge for the video player. i don't want pause/start (not really a problem, but i generally do this via space) return to second 0 (especially this... is so ** annoying) change volume faster slower etc. features at all when i use the trackpad. i need the trackpad for browsing, not to control videos, otherwise you/apple create only conflicts. 99% of the time they activate it, even if i don't need it. please disable such things inside the video if possible. obviously with an additional option, because probably other user need it... This means we can activate full mode and pip at the same time. on macos space 2 we use full mode, on macos space 1 we can browsing on the web using pip mode. so we can switch between full and pip continuously (like we now can do by opening 2 tabs (or browsers) at the same time and play them both at the same time, one in pip, one in full).smart overlay for photos/video - smart reverse search - smart download
