Severe Frame Drops in Microsoft Edge When Playing Tencent Video HEVC at 1080P in Windows

When playing HEVC videos from Tencent Video(https://v.qq.com) on Microsoft Edge (Windows), I experience severe frame drops at 1080P resolution. However, this issue does not occur when playing at 720P.

Interestingly, Chrome does not exhibit the same problem when playing the same 1080P videos. I have saved the relevant video files for comparison. Is this a bug in Edge? Upon analyzing the files using Mp4Box.js, no significant differences were found.

That definitely sounds frustrating! Frame drops at 1080P shouldn't be happening, especially when everything runs smoothly in Chrome. It might be a compatibility or optimization issue with how Edge handles HEVC playback, especially from certain sources like Tencent Video.

It could be worth reporting directly to Microsoft if you haven't already—they might not be aware of how specific this issue is. Hopefully, a fix rolls out soon.

I’ve had a similar experience with streaming platforms before, but interestingly, playback on https://mymagistv.com.co has been smooth for me even at higher resolutions. Maybe it’s how the video is encoded or how the site delivers the stream.

Either way, fingers crossed Edge sorts it out soon!

Is there anyone here? This issue has been lingering for a long time without resolution

I've been getting insane slowdown when video is playing on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram etc.  MacOS, this is new behaviour since the latest version.  Easiest test - when a video is playing 3-finger swipe up and what is normally a clean 120FPS animation is like 15FPS.  Also Activity Monitor shows insane GPU use.

None of these issues in standard Chrome.
