OS: Windows Server 20225 Standard Core (no GUI), build 26085.1 Role: ADDS, DNS ForestMode: Windows2025Forest DomainMode: Windows2025Domain Platform: Hyper-V guest When standing up a clean Windows Server 2025 using server core and configuring it as a domain controller, the network category (profile) always shows as "public." A clean load of Windows Server 2022 with server core as a domain controller has the same behavior. However, in Server 2022, the fix is to add DNS as a required service to the nlasvc (Network Location Awareness) service. Once that is done, the network category reflects "DomainAuthenticed" and persists between reboots. In Server 2025, the nlasvc service does not have the same requiredservices as Windows Server 2022, and it does not start automatically. Even after configuring the nlasvc service the same way it is in Server 2022 and adding DNS as a required service, the network category still reflects "public." The only way to get the network category to properly reflect the "DomainAuthenticated" status is to disable and reenable the network adapter after each reboot.17KViews14likes85CommentsWindows Server 2022 Product Key
Good Morning everyone! I am new to using Server Insider builds, (i have used normal Win10 builds for many years) just wondering where i could find & use a product key to activate Windows Server 2022 (latest built). Any help would be great 😄 Thanks, JaySolved396KViews10likes28CommentsPlease Help-me
Hello everyone, as part of my degree, I will start using Windows Server 2016 from Monday. Big problem, I’m working with a MacBook M1, and I’m encountering a major issue since I can’t find any ARM64-compatible ISO for Server… I’m already working with W11 Pro but have been struggling for a week to find something that will work… Do you know if there’s a solution (no emulation) or an ARM64 version of Windows Server? Even 2019 or 2022. Help me out! 😭136Views0likes1CommentProblem with in-place upgrade of windows server 2016 to 2022
Hello, I am having issues while trying to upgrade the servers. We have two Windows Server 2016 Domain Controllers. AD, DNS, NPAS roles are installed on the DCs. I have built a new 2022 Server. I was trying to upgrade the schema by running ADprep /forestprep and ADprep /domainprep on Primary DC that holds the schema master role. I am constantly getting this error. I have tried everything and checked all the permissions. Here is the output of my ADprep execution: PS D:\support\adprep> .\adprep.exe /forestprep ADPREP WARNING: Before running adprep, all Windows Active Directory Domain Controllers in the forest must run Windows Server 2003 or later. Announcing Windows Server Preview Build 25977 Hello Windows Server Insiders! Today we are pleased to release a new build of the next Windows Server Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) Preview that contains both the Desktop Experience and Server Core installation options for Datacenter and Standard editions, and Azure Edition (for VM evaluation only). Branding has not yet been updated and remains as Windows Server 2022 in this preview - when reporting issues please refer to "VNext" rather than Windows Server 2022 which is currently in market. What's New These new features are specific to Windows Server with Desktop Experience only. Some of these will require running the OS on physical systems AND having the right drivers on hand. Additions to Settings>Accounts: Email & Accounts is now consistent with Windows 11. Please note, that domain join will still be necessary for most scenarios. Increased coverage for Bluetooth devices. Many of you want to use BT to connect mice, keyboards, and audio devices at the Edge. Please try out your favorite keyboard, mouse, headphones, or other BT peripheral! Wi-Fi present by default. Many of you want to connect servers to Wi-Fi networks at the Edge. While Wireless LAN service has been present in Windows Server, it was disabled by default. Wi-Fi support is now currently enabled by default for Edge scenarios. You will need the appropriate hardware and drivers handy. Please verify that your wireless devices work properly. When hardware and the correct drivers are present, see the corresponding Settings and Taskbar experiences. Let us know what you think! First login privacy settings: this is not the final version, but you will notice a Windows 11 like first login “OOBE” experience, albeit limited to user privacy settings. Please note: We are aware of extraneous options. These will be addressed in later preview builds. The impetus for this design change is for user admins to receive prominent notice regarding the Diagnostic Data level setting and provide a familiar and consistent experience with Windows Client. SMB over QUIC Client Access Control Starting with this build (Build 25977), SMB over QUIC now supports additional access control options for clients. This improves the existing SMB over QUIC feature, which introduced an alternative to the TCP network transport, providing secure, reliable connectivity to edge file servers over untrusted networks like the Internet. With this new option, administrators can restrict which clients can access SMB over QUIC servers. This option gives organizations additional SMB over QUIC connection protections but does not change the Windows authentication used to make the SMB connection or the end user experience. This new feature requires both the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25977 as well as a Windows Server Insider Preview Build 25977 or higher running in a VM. For more information on configuring SMB over QUIC client access control, review https://aka.ms/SmbOverQuicCAC. Known Issues If you are validating upgrades from Windows Server 2019 or 2022, we do not recommend that you use this build as intermittent upgrade failures have been identified for this build. This build has an issue where archiving eventlogs with "wevetutil al" command causes the Windows Event Log service to crash, and the archive operation to fail. The service must be restarted by executing "Start-Service EventLog" from an administrative command line prompt. If you have Secure Launch/DRTM code path enabled, we do not recommend that you install this build. Available Downloads Downloads to certain countries may not be available. Attending a training of our server vendor last week I heard there, that Server 2022 will be the last Windows Server with the Hyper-V Role built in. This means, it will not be possible to install the Hyper-V Role in the Windows Server 2022 Standard successor, they said. We have a lot of SMB Customers, running 2 ... 6 VMs on fully licensed Windows Server Standard (2012R2-2016-2019-coming 2022), many of them replicating to a second server. If this is true, this will force our SMB customers into AzureStack HCI (one or two nodes) with the very expensive ASHCI licensing model. Does anyone know, if it is really true, that the Hyper-V Role will fade out of Windows Server Standard in the version after 2022?Solved6.2KViews0likes3CommentsServer 2022 Preview missing Let's Encrypt Root certificate
