Tab grouping in Edge insider canary is worse than Tab grouping in Google chrome stable Edge insider Version 81.0.375.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit) VS Google Chrome Version 79.0.3945.88 (Official Build) (64-bit) so in Google chrome, when I go to a website (Any website) and then right-click on a link (could be video, post, picture etc), Google chrome automatically puts my original tab and the new tab into one group and gives it a color. Then if i open a new website in a third tab, it has no group by default but once i right-click on a link on that website and open it in a new tab, the same grouping happens. these groups with different colors help us recognize which tabs belong to which website/group and make things easier to manage. in Microsoft Edge, I have to right-click on each tab and create groups manually. P.S if you are wondering how to activate Tab Grouping: you have to go to here: edge://flags/ then find this from the search: Tab Groups and set it to enabled restart your browser4.3KViews10likes11Comments[REQ] Media Autoplay blocking should stop video Buffering/Preloading in the background
Media Autoplay blocking has improved substantially, thank you for that! there is however an issue with it. even though the Media Autoplay blocking is doing its job, but it does not stop the videos from buffering and preloading in the browser. websites can still use Internet bandwidth to download the video file to user's browser and wait for the user to click on the play button to start playing it. this is problematic for people with low Internet bandwidth or just for anyone who doesn't want to waste data on video files that they never intend to watch (thus set Media Autoplay blocking to "Block") so as you can see in this page: there are enough empty spaces left there to add another small option. so to make Media Autoplay blocking fully effective, please add an option which will stop video files from being preloaded/buffered in the browser in background. the option can be a toggle button. By the way, it does not happen in all websites. only for those websites that implement HTML5 video attributes for video preloading. in other websites that do not include attributes and tags like that, the video neither plays nor preloads until user clicks on the play button. Another feedback, For example this page: https://edition.cnn.com/videos/health/2019/10/03/eee-eastern-equine-encephalitis-outbreak-gingras-ots-vpx.hln if I was on the CNN home page and clicked on that page, the video would play automatically, but if I close my browser, reopen it and paste that link in the address bar, the video gets successfully blocked by Media Autoplay blocking. Now if you go to full screen mode, by either pressing F11 on keyboard or this button you will see the tabs and address bar in a drop down fashion, just like in Edge classic. to do that, first you have to be on the latest version of Edge insider Canary which is Version 80.0.335.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit) then you have to go to: edge://flags/ and enable this flag Enable Fullscreen Dropdown Drops down browser frame during browser fullscreen. – Windows #edge-enable-shy-ui That's it. it was requested multiple times on the forum and I was looking for this functionality as well. Google chrome (even the latest canary version) still doesn't have this useful functionality.28KViews6likes33CommentsAdd SOCKS5 (+ Authentication) support to Edge insider browser
Hi, Please consider adding SOCKS5 proxy support and Authentication (username and password) to the new Edge browser. currently only Firefox has that capability (without Auth). Microsoft Edge insider is using the same networking settings as google chrome which is not ideal and heavily relies on extensions and 3rd party programs. please create a separate proxy settings page that only effects Edge browser (like Firefox) and Not the whole Windows OS, and add SOCKS5 support to it. Thanks70KViews5likes5CommentsAdd Audio-only blocking to Media autoplay blocking in Edge browser
Currently the media Auto-play blocking options (Allow, Limit, Block) only apply to Videos. but what if we want the video to be auto-played, but its audio be muted by default? so I think these options needed to be added to that settings page which also has lots of vacant space left to be filled with useful options. edge://settings/content/mediaAutoplay Block Audio Block Video Block Audio and Video (should also block Auto-Buffering/preloading of media)2.9KViews5likes6CommentsHow to get the new Edge insider Logo after update
UPDATE 1: You have to uninstall your browser and then download and reinstall it again from here: https://www.microsoftedgeinsider.com/en-us/download/ this is one way to get the correct icon everywhere (start menu, taskbar, desktop) and with the correct label (Canary, Dev, Beta) I did it and chose to delete user data during uninstall, but be careful, make sure to enable Sync before uninstall to prevent from losing any data. UPDATE 2: Thanks toasplode If you create a new profile and then promptly delete it, the icons are fixed! UPDATE 3: Thanks to MitchDahl signing out of Sync and then back in. UPDATE 4: Thanks to Dennis5mile "I found another way to change the icon for whichever version you are using. First right click the icon and then right click the exe for that version of edge you want changed then click properties.. follow the photos below which I did from my taskbar... then on next screen choose change icon.. Then choose the icon you want, but make sure the path is correct"14KViews4likes13CommentsJanuary 15th 2020 is the date for Stable release of Edge insider
So I assume History and Extension syncing are not going to be included because according to this post they are just going to come into Canary at that time and given how time consuming implementing and solidifying Sync features are, it's gonna take at least a couple of months after that. I personally think Microsoft Edge could use some more time being in the beta phase, at least until it gets all of the features that the current classic Edge has, to be a proper replacement for it. https://www.microsoftedgeinsider.com/en-us/whats-newSolved7.5KViews4likes19CommentsFacts about Edge Stable version [+ Link] - And what we know so far
The Stable version of the new Edge browser is publicly available to download from Microsoft servers: https://c2rsetup.officeapps.live.com/c2r/downloadEdge.aspx?ProductreleaseID=Edge&platform=Default&version=Edge&Channel=Stable&language=en Keep Reading, it's not officially available on the front page and for any reason that Microsoft has, they let it stay online and available for us to test and use it. So, this is neither an accident, nor a mistake. there are certain rules and security measures that apply to files on a server and Microsoft employees, probably better than anyone else, know how to make a file secure. Clearly, if Microsoft wanted only their employees to have access to this file, they would have done so long time ago and anyone else would receive an "Access Denied" Error. but as you see there is no such error when accessing that link. The source of that link: it consists of 2 parts https://c2rsetup.officeapps.live.com/c2r/downloadEdge.aspx (which is well known) ?ProductreleaseID=Edge&platform=Default&version=Edge&Channel=Stable&language=en (which is the next part that is called Query String and is very easy to understand if you know that programming language) so you see, nothing unknown or strange about that link, all very simple. If Microsoft did not want people to download it, you would get a message like this after clicking on that link: Reminder: You are able to Uninstall it and the Latest version of Edge (chromium based) Stable is: Version 79.0.309.7 (Official build) (64-bit) https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/DeployEdge/microsoft-edge-sysupdate-windows-updates See the screenshots: these were all the facts so far about the stable version of Edge insider, hope it shed some light over the whole idea and hopefully we will learn more from Microsoft employees themselves. Have a nice day!7.2KViews3likes19Comments
