I have a file server, I do not have permission to view the D drive which contains share folders.
I am local and domain administrator, I want to take ownership of D drive.
Does this action will reset all folders permission, or replace original permission?

Hi @wkcalvin888,
Taking ownership of a drive in Windows Server will not reset all folder permissions. The original permissions will remain intact.
When you take ownership of a drive, you are essentially changing the user who is considered the owner of the drive. This gives you full control over the drive, including the ability to change permissions for folders and files on the drive.
However, taking ownership of a drive does not automatically change the permissions for folders and files on the drive. You will need to explicitly change the permissions for each folder and file, if desired.
Best practices suggest that, when possible, it's better to modify permissions at the folder or file level rather than taking ownership of the entire drive. Only resort to taking ownership when it's absolutely necessary, and maintain thorough documentation of any permission changes to avoid future complications.
