Caching domain login credentials on a laptop

Copper Contributor

I recently setup and configured "Windows Server 2019" on premises. I'm now in a post-configuration phase where I need to tweak various settings in the domain using group policies.

  1. How do I find out what the default password caching period is (in days) for computers that are members of the domain ? This is particularly relevant for laptops that are infrequently in contact with the domain controller (e.g. laptops in the field) but domain credentials are used to log in

  2. In the event that the caching period has expired how does one log in to the laptop ?  Would I have to use a local admin account to re-join the laptop to the domain ?

Thanks in advance,

Cached credentials do not expire.

@Dave Patrick

Thanks for your reply. I also found the following article which confirms your reply that it is indeed the case.

I'm very new to this discussion forum.

What is the best way (or correct way) for closing a thread ? I don't seem to have this option when I hover over the 3 dot icon. Perhaps I don't have permissions to close my own thread. Apologies in advance for my ignorance.
