Password security
Hi, I was wondering if Active Directory passwords are transmitted in clear text over the network to domain controllers when a user authenticates on a client that is a member of the local domain. To be more specific, I have a test lab with the following clients: A Windows 10 client that is a member of the domain A Synology NAS device that has been joined to the local domain In the case of item 2, I ran Wireshark on the local domain controller. I can see frames labelled with the "KRB5" protocol and searched for the (test) username. I'm not able to find any evidence of the password being detected in clear plain textRe: Caching domain login credentials on a laptop
I'm very new to this discussion forum. What is the best way (or correct way) for closing a thread ? I don't seem to have this option when I hover over the 3 dot icon. Perhaps I don't have permissions to close my own thread. Apologies in advance for my ignorance.9.3KViews0likes2CommentsRe: Caching domain login credentials on a laptop
Dave Patrick Thanks for your reply. I also found the following article which confirms your reply that it is indeed the case. https://woshub.com/cached-domain-logon-credentials-windows/#:~:text=Caching%20Domain%20User%20Credentials%20on%20Windows,-Cached%20credentials%20may&text=User%20password%20in%20cashed%20credentials,on%20with%20a%20new%20password. Much appreciated, John9.9KViews0likes4CommentsCaching domain login credentials on a laptop
I recently setup and configured "Windows Server 2019" on premises. I'm now in a post-configuration phase where I need to tweak various settings in the domain using group policies. How do I find out what the default password caching period is (in days) for computers that are members of the domain ? This is particularly relevant for laptops that are infrequently in contact with the domain controller (e.g. laptops in the field) but domain credentials are used to log in In the event that the caching period has expired how does one log in to the laptop ? Would I have to use a local admin account to re-join the laptop to the domain ? Thanks in advance,Solved
