Thank you for joining us this week for the Windows Server Summit! Q&A is now closed, but all sessions are available on demand so you can watch and learn when it is convenient for you. We hope you enjoyed the event.
- Great session and summary Manfred!
- Tony_PomboIron ContributorSpeaking of security, why does the "Pre-Windows 2000 Compatible Access" group still contain "Authenticated Users" by default? Are Windows NT and Windows 95/98 still so common place to make this the default?
- JanMiBrass ContributorYou are not able to do a shared nothing live migration (via constrained delegation) in Hyper-V from a management workstation with an empty "Pre-Windows 2000 Compatible Access" group as long as you won't put the involved Hyper-V hosts in the "Windows Authorization Access Group" group. Not sure if it affects Failover Cluster, too. Did not test it yet.
- matt grossmanCopper ContributorI tried to empty this group out last year in my Windows 2022 / Windows 10 environment and one app in 1,000 broke. App is from '99 and will never die
Seeing we are touching NTLM there are other areas I wonder why they are not touched. Do you like to join my call and raising yours in a separate posting? https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-server-insiders/feature-request-netbios-and-wins-deprecation-removal/m-p/3293074/highlight/true#M2506
- Is there a patch required for ISV backup / recovery solutions (CommVault, Veeam, Windows Backup?) to support backup and restore of DFL / FFL 2025 and 32k pages or will they eventually not care? Question arises as many do AD database level backups and support object level restores. Thank you!
- I tried Windows Server Backup and it worked. I did not test any 3rd party backup solution - I would recommend to ensure that any used 3rd party solution it is certified/supported for Windows Server 2025.
Memento... Windows Server 2025 is still in preview. Just in case you fail to get adprep running.
Posted about that here when tried upgrading Windows Server AD DS 2022 with 2016 FFL / DFL level to Windows Server AD DS 2025 with 2025 FFL / DFL level. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-server-insiders/b26080-issue-adprep-for-windows-server-2025-schema-fails-due/m-p/4091413- There is a solution for this issue - and as you mentioned Windows Server 2025 is the great next Windows Server Release we are all lloking forward to but ist ist still in Preview 🙂
- I am all ears. Do you refer to the one mentioned in the comments? For my part it is a lab, waiting for an official fix, so I can confirm when it is fixed. No hurry. Wishing you a good weekend ahead Manfred!
- Windows Server 2019 is already out of mainstream support. I can just +1 on the recommendation.
- PeterJ_InobitsIron ContributorWhat is the impact of Server 2925 DCs on AADCONNECT/Cloud sync operations?. Also are those two tools supported on Server 2025 yet?
- Currently, Windows Server 2025 is still in Preview - support statements will be added later this year. But as we had Support for Entra ID Cloud Sync in actual Windows Server releases this is also expected for Windows Server 2025.
