Forced removal of Local Admin Account??
Allow Standard + Admin Profiles to Link to the Same Microsoft Account (Technical Justification Included)
Problem:
Windows forces local Administrator accounts to link to a Microsoft Account, but linking them to the same Microsoft Account used by a Standard User profile causes the Admin profile to inherit the Standard User’s attributes. This breaks the recommended two‑account security model.
Why this needs fixing:
Security best practice requires separating daily use (Standard User) from elevation (Admin).
Forced Microsoft Account linking now conflicts with this model.
Profile attribute inheritance is incorrectly tied to the Microsoft Account rather than the local SID.
Account‑linking logic assumes a 1:1 mapping, which no longer reflects real‑world usage patterns.
Users lose Microsoft Account benefits (sync, Store, licensing, cloud integration) unless they compromise their security model.
Technical justification:
Each Windows profile already has a unique SID, which should remain the authoritative identity boundary.
Microsoft Accounts already support multiple device identities and multiple VM identities under one account—profiles could be handled the same way.
Decoupling Microsoft Account identity from local profile attributes would prevent cross‑profile contamination.
A simple model:
One Microsoft Account
Multiple local profiles, each with:
Unique SID
Independent privilege level
Independent local settings
Shared cloud identity without shared local attributes
This aligns with existing Azure AD / Entra ID patterns where one cloud identity maps to multiple local objects.
Why it matters to users:
This is a Microsoft‑created limitation that blocks secure workflows.
It undermines trust when long‑standing issues go unaddressed.
Fixing it would demonstrate that Microsoft is genuinely listening to Insider feedback.
I'd be perfectly happy to use a cloud-based account instead of a local one, provided it offered the storage and peace of mind described above.
