Secure release helps maintain user privacy and reduce waste and cost from unnecessary printing by holding print jobs until users are at the printer. Universal Print secure release with QR code is now supported on both Android and iOS.
Security for a fraction of the cost with secure release with QR code
Microsoft understands that security and privacy are top concerns. When it comes to printing, organizations want to prevent the disclosure of sensitive information at the printer, which can happen if a document is printed before a user is at the printer to collect it.
This is where secure release comes in. Secure release is the ability to prevent a printer from printing a document until the user goes to the printer to “release” it. Not only does secure release provide security and privacy benefits, it also reduces waste and cost from uncollected printouts.
Unlike other secure release solutions like badge release, which require high-end printers and badge readers, QR code release works as long as your end-users have the Microsoft 365 app on their mobile devices and are authenticated to Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).
How it works
To enable secure release with QR code for any printer in the organization, the IT administrator must configure the release type for the printer (i.e., “QR code”) in the Universal Print portal. This generates a QR code for the printer, which the admin then attaches to the physical printer.
Once configured, people in the organization can send print jobs to the configured printer, and release the print job by scanning the QR code on the printer with the Microsoft 365 app.
