As a Microsoft fan, and someone who has spent the better part of 20+ years working on Microsoft products in one way or another, you are just telling us what we've already been trying to do for the last 10 years. GET OFF IE. Getting off IE has been a goal of most companies for a long time. The problems that I've come across in my industry, is you (Microsoft) gave us applications that we spent millions of dollars and thousands of hours developing ( SharePoint/custom IIS sites etc: ) We ran our businesses out of these products, we trained our teams, we got comfortable with working with these products. Instead of just updating IE, you create a new product called Edge that I now have to retrain all my users to leverage. Have to change all my QA processes, retrain all my development teams etc: Sometimes it feels like Microsoft doesn't understand how much time it takes to just move a user to a different URL nevermind a different browser.
We still find internal applications and web sites all the time that don't render well on Edge, and our QA testers have to render those in another browser.
Why didn't you just update IE? Was the application name IE really that poisoned? Why didn't you just call Edge, IE?
