Windows 11 Media Player Legacy still looks like it’s from the 2000s

I noticed the old Media Player Legacy on Windows 11 still has a 2000s-style interface. Is this kept on purpose by Microsoft?

The "old-style" interface you're seeing belongs to Windows Media Player Legacy. Microsoft stopped actively developing the features or user interface of this player after Windows 7 . It is kept in Windows 11 not for everyday consumers, but to ensure that older software and specific business systems continue to function.

The legacy media player is a Win32 application retained for compatibility purposes; its interface has not been updated. We recommend using the Media Player or Movies & TV as an alternative.
