Preview update turned full win11 license into an evaluation
Hello community,
something weird here, a Lenovo laptop bought new with a full win 11 license (not sure 100% if it was win11 or 10 upgraded to 11)
after one of the latest preview updates turned to an evaluation copy with timed expiration.
Edition Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview
Version 25H2
Installed on 3/12/2026
Evaluation expires on 8/11/2026 8:09 PM
OS build 26220.8575
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.381.0
Who may be able to help here?
Should i reach for Microsoft support?

Hi, Insider Preview builds can show an evaluation expiry even when the underlying Windows license is still valid. Check Settings > System > Activation and run `slmgr /xpr` to separate activation status from the preview build's expiry date. If it says Windows is activated, your digital license probably has not been lost. The long-term fix is to move back to a supported public build when your Insider channel allows it; some channel changes require a clean installation. Back up first. If the stable edition matching the Lenovo license will not activate, then Microsoft activation support is the right place to verify the entitlement.
