If you're getting error code 80072EFE while updating your laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, try the following steps:
1. Check your internet connection and ensure it's stable.
2. Restart your computer and Internet router (modem)
3. Temporarily disable any third-party antivirus or firewall software.
4. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter to fix any update-related issues
- Press Windows Key + X > click Control Panel
- In the Search Bar type Troubleshooting
- Click View All to view all available options
- Scroll to the bottom and click Windows Update
Follow on-screen instructions to continue.
5. Clear the Windows Update cache by following specific commands in an elevated (Administrator) command prompt (cmd):
net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver
