Windows Mail app only shows initials next to emails
This has been an inconsistent bug for me for a long while. Even though mails in my Inbox are coming from senders having custom profile pictures, the Windows Mail app only shows their initials with different colors next to their emails. The same goes for when I send an email to myself; it's not showing my Microsoft's profile picture. The website Outlook.com doesn't have these issues at all. Also, the mail alerts in the right lower corner don't even show the initials but the standard person icon. These issues usually happen after a clean install of Windows although not always. And I recall not having this issue before clean installing. I'm not sure whether it needs time until it resolves itself or if I have to reset/change an option somewhere. Deleting and reinstalling the Windows Mail app several times didn't help. Anyone else has this and/or knows how to fix it?567Views0likes0CommentsRe: Clean install 22H2 decreases spacing between Desktop icons
Reza_Ameri Already did. Question before I make a feedback, did you notice the same with your Desktop icons being more cramped up together compared to previous Windows 11/10 versions? You can check the spacing values through HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics1.8KViews0likes1CommentClean install 22H2 decreases spacing between Desktop icons
I noticed after a clean install of 22H2 that the Desktop icons are cramped up together. Relatively short icon names are also truncated quite early as compared to earlier versions fo Windows 11. The horizontal and vertical spacing values in the registry editor are both -1125. Earlier versions of Windows 11 show respectively -1650 and -1200. This is when using a resolution of 1920x1080 with 100% scaling. I know I can change these values but I was wondering whether anyone else noticed this after clean installing 22H2?1.9KViews0likes3CommentsRe: Recommended Section of Start Menu showing blank icons
nheimler Thanks for the confirmation. I sent a feedback to MS and they said the following Thank you for your feedback! We included a fix for this issue with Build 22504, now available in the Dev Channel: https://aka.ms/wip22504 But please let us know if you continue to experience any issues. UPDATE: This is also now available in the Beta Channel with Build 22581: https://aka.ms/wip22581 However, build 22504 was released in november 2021. Is it possible that all this time this specific fix is still in the Insider builds and not yet released to the stable releases4.4KViews0likes1CommentRecommended Section of Start Menu showing blank icons
Is it just me or does the Recommended Section of the Start Menu still show blank icons for files? This issue has been there for quite a while now. Rebuilding the icon cache did not help. SFC /scannow did not show any corruptions. It's a clean install of Windows 11 21H2.4.6KViews0likes11CommentsRe: Disk Cleanup won't delete certain files
Mousefluff This is cumbersome not to mention quite risky. Deleted Could you please check something out for me? 1. In Windows Settings, go to System -> Storage -> Temporary files and clean the files as usual. 2. Now, go to the temp folder (Start menu -> Run -> %temp%). Is there a folder created on that exact timestamp when you went to the Storage settings and cleaned the files? Its name consisting of numbers and letters separated by -'s and contains an executable called Dismhost.exe (among many others files)? Waiting for your reply.12KViews0likes1CommentRe: Gmail alerts only pop up when opening Mail app
They are all enabled in Windows settings. In the Mail app settings you can set alerts separately for each account that is added in your Windows Mail app. Hence me wondering how you tested this out. Alerts should be on for Gmail in Windows Mail app settings.4.8KViews0likes2CommentsRe: Gmail alerts only pop up when opening Mail app
Thanks for testing. Just to make sure, you have tested this while not using the default settings for alerts? Or did you test it out while enabling alerts for Gmail in the Mail app settings? The latter is what I'm curious about. You can disable it again afterwards if you like.4.8KViews0likes4CommentsRe: Gmail alerts only pop up when opening Mail app
Wait, so you don't get Gmail notifications from the Mail app when the app is closed because you've disabled it? How about if you enable it but keep Mail app closed and send a mail to your Gmail account, because that's the issue I'm talking about.4.8KViews0likes8CommentsRe: Gmail alerts only pop up when opening Mail app
Deleted Thanks for testing. So you receive email alerts from Gmail in your Mail app even when Mail app is closed? If yes, could you please check something for me? In your online Google Security settings, do you have 2-step verification enabled and does it show "Email on Windows" when clicking the App Passwords? Please see the attachment for details on how to see this.4.9KViews1like10CommentsRe: Disk Cleanup won't delete certain files
Question, when going to the temp folder (type %temp% in the run application) do you see many folders with numbers and letters separated by -'s ? Do these folders contain an .exe file called Dismhost.exe? wrd2093au Curious whether you also have these mentioned folders in the temp folder containing DismHost.exe12KViews0likes3CommentsDisk Cleanup can't clean because of accumulating folders
Ticking the "Temporary Files" category via Settings -> Storage or via Disk Cleanup and trying to clean it does not work. Around the same space is still taken by these files. When going to %temp% (through the "Run" app) I can see many folders like shown in the attachment. All of these folders contain the executable DismHost.exe among many other .dll files. Googling DismHost.exe shows many people having this issue all back to 2015. They mention the issue is related to a Scheduled Task that can't be executed for some reason, but in my case there is no automated task whatsoever that is prevented around the time these folders are created. In my case, I noticed these folders are created the moment I try to clean the temporary files through Settings or Disk Cleanup. Using Windows 11 Pro 21H2 Is anyone else noticing that Temporary Files can't be deleted and having their temp folder filled with folders containing DismHost.exe?1.3KViews1like3Comments
