Re: Dev channel update to 95.0.997.1 is live
1. I am not able to consistently reproduce rubber banding. 2. Scrolling feels off. It still triggers the right click menu sometimes. Scroll personality varies based on what webpage I am on. Old edge and IR were flawlessly consistent. 3. UI not as responsive as IE/Old edge. The browser feels foreign to windows 10 in general.12KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Dev channel update to 94.0.992.1 is live
Latest canary build. Webpage scrolling sucks. PDF rendering sucks. This browser is nothing like classic edge. I see every toggle you put as a compromise. For example, Efficiency mode. I can see animations and frame rates dropping. If this mode is supposed to kick in for most users when battery is low then you are basically having two different experiences. I wanted it to run efficiently all the time, minus the slightly worse experience.8KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Dev channel update to 93.0.946.1 is live
I still see white bars during PDF scrolling. PDF text is not as clear as it was in legacy edge. Webpage scrolling is infinitely worse than legacy edge. It is broken in every other canary build. The right click menu has again started to pop up when scrolling so reopen that bug. Seeing how little progress has been made since chromium edge's inception in the areas where legacy edge excelled at I'll give you guys 3-4 years till you get it right.9.9KViews1like0CommentsRe: Top Feedback Summary for March 31
I am happy to see that vertical tabs on the right side of the screen is happening. Sometimes we have fundamentally different ideas of how we would want to use a software. Article exploring similar thing in gaming : https://www.theguardian.com/games/2020/feb/28/why-do-video-game-players-invert-the-controls It was met with tremendous response and anther article was published months later, by the same author - https://www.theguardian.com/games/2020/dec/02/scientists-studying-why-gamers-invert-their-controls Vertical tabs on right side is how I think most people would like to use the browser and it should be the default, out of box setting in the future. Most languages including English go from left to right, there is more available screen space on the right side. Right handed people who hold the mouse in right hand constitue the majority of population and to them the tabs on right side is just the most natural way to use the browser without cris crossing their arms. A welcome development and looking forward to it !8.7KViews5likes3CommentsRe: Modernize Edge [Scrollbars and other aged parts]
No more toggles please. There are already many. Edge should work same on all hardware. It is a good thing that edge doesn't have a battery saver toggle like Opera GX. I would like to see Edge UI natively written atleast on Windows 10. The current UI is a huge letdown compared to slim, stylish and clutterfree EdgeHTML based legacy version. The UI freezes. A lot. Collections and history panels are slow to open. Opening collections sometimes kicks the fans in my laptop. Can the edge UI be as native as minimize and close options on top right corner of display are? These options work always, edge UI does not, they look sharp, edge UI looks blurry. You don't have to hardcode the engine in the OS, I get that was the main reason for switching to chromium in the first place, but you can definitely write the UI 'more natively'. To what extent? I don't know. I guess if it was possible you'd make edge a fluent application on windows. But still this needs to be looked. The current UI is ugly. Edge legacy was the only browser ever made that looked like, say, a fashion designer might use. Chromium edge, firefox and chrome look like something a nerd would use, or an IT guy. A design you 'make on the move' of course won't look like something you conceived from the sratch. But you can try to make it more bearable, for those of us who liked edge (original) more than chrome.1.3KViews0likes0CommentsSuggestions for improving tab preview experience
I see the latest canary has moved tab previews further inside the vertical tab panel, which is better than before and saves space. But it does look 'off', it is slighltly to the right and appears on top of panel. I get the right side placement is to leave some space so user has some idea of what is down below but it does look off. My suggestion would be either to intigrate the tab preview fully within the panel or to make a seperate tab strip /preview bar for navigating through previews. Now for my problem with tab descriptions 1. They are visible twice simultaneously, once in tab panel and once at the bottom of tab preview. 2. The bottom description itself takes less or more space depending on the description and this makes for an insconsistant, jarring experience. Suggestions : 1. Make the description appear once only 2. If you are choosing to continue with description at the bottom, the text should take less space in the preview. Currently it takes ~30% of the space. 3. The description could be displayed at the top of the preview rather than at the bottom, in a narrow strip the width of the individual tab descriptions in vertical panel. This way it will appear once. Likewise when tabs are presented horizontally the tab strip at the top is either sufficient, and if not so, can be expanded downwards, so the description is visible only once and is not duplicated.759Views0likes1CommentRe: Top Feedback Summary for March 3
I love all these features coming in march. 1. Ability to pin a collection would be nice (not to be confused with pinning the collection panel which is possible already) 2. Ability to completely hide the title bar when vertical tabs are enabled would be awesome. The idea should be to show just how much space can freed vertically.7.4KViews2likes1CommentRe: New Feature Roadmap now up on the What's Next page of the Microsoft Edge Insider site
The adobe reader image community member Boonsong posted gives me idea that there should be an all tab view mode where whole screen is filled with tabs with image previews for quickly finding any tab. This, if it can serve the tab tiling function as well will be awesome.13KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Make Microsoft Edge your own with themes
These theme have been made with some effort and are not from chrome. After several days of trying I am not using theme because they did not change address bar and menu. The idea of user creating themes easily without coding requirement appeals to me. Can you please make it so that the custom image on new tab page that we upload ( not to be confused with custom theme ) is not darkened a bit like it currently is? Can you provide light theme for inprivate mode like original edge did? What appeals to me is the idea of using edge out of box with no customisation. It is not a looker anymore ever since chromium was adopted. I sometimes saved images when I came across edgeHtml version. Not here. That needs to be changed. I digress but this is also a reason a native adblocker is needed that is switched on by default. Most chrome users probably don't use adblocker, so when they try edge they'll get a clutter free feel they don't get in chrome. Finally, menus must be made shorter, more visual and approachable. Opera does it best among all browsers.70KViews1like1CommentRe: Discussion - Updating our interface with Fluent touches
~ 2 year old article. https://www.windowscentral.com/new-microsoft-edge-wont-look-chrome Posted today in r/MicrosoftEdge https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftEdge/comments/kz08bv/reality_looks_much_uglier_then_what_was_promised3.6KViews0likes10CommentsRe: Discussion - Updating our interface with Fluent touches
Shompinice 's feedback should be noted. I want more native controls, the non native edge has a blurry UI. Chromium's blurry image, text and pdf rendering is another problem. I said this before and I'm saying this now - i like nothing about chrome and everything about original edge based on EdgeHTML. New edge has precisely none of the advantages I liked in original edge. You can't mistake it for a UWP app that is built into OS. It is not great with touch response, the touch experience is not even tracked as a quality area. Pretty sure if edge was forked, these things should have been on the horizon atleast, but now with chromium there are not even any exciting future plans. Nothing worth looking forward to has been announced. Come on microsoft. Give us something.3.6KViews2likes13Comments
