Is WMC solid on 11 ?
I am still running Windows 7 with 2 HDhomeRun Primes total 6 tuners on Comcast WMC and KODI so now purchased Lifetime PLEX but would not work on my current machine so I built a Windows 11 Pro PC with Asus P8Z77 mother board with i7-3770 cpu with 32 gig and Nvidia Quadro P2200 card for transcoding. Is WMC solid on Windows 11 ? with EPG123 and all my goodies ? Because everything is Automated and I am gone sometimes for months or Do I need to setup the W11 as a Mapped Drive so Win7 can send recorded TV shows to it ?What's the successor of the "utilman.exe" method for a pre-logon console?
A few years ago MS "fixed" the most widely used exploit for resetting a user password by replacing any of the "ease of access" tools (utilman.exe, osk.exe, sethc.exe and so on) with a copy of cmd.exe to get a console with system privileges. Of course you already needed file system access for that, so it was never really a security issue. Now Windows Defender is (apparently) doing a signature check and won't allow any ease of access tool to run if it has been replaced. Did the exploit "evolve" to combat the signature check or is there no more way to get a console before logon? Again, it's purely a convenience issue, not a security issue because you can still reset the password of an existing user (and/or make him admin) via that SAM tool under Linux (and at least the built-in admin account is always a local user, even if it's an AD machine). It's a bit of a niche use case since an "offline" console (booting another OS, including the recovery environment) should be sufficient in most cases. But there are a few edge cases which require an "online" console to interact with the running system, e.g. when the boot device is restricted or the partition is Bitlocker encrypted (via the TPM).OneDrive causing problems
I used one drive so that I could work between PC and Laptop. I wasnt happy with it and was able to uninstall it from my PC. I believe than I have uninstalled it from my laptop , (there is no evidence of it in apps or file explorer) but a onedrive folder still remains in my user folder containing a second documents folder. When I save to docs, new files appear here. I can manually place files in correct folder, but the shortcut is hit and miss, following two different paths. I hope the screen shots explain. What I want is one shortcut on my desktop that will always take the correct path. Would appreciate any fixes.Help fix Windows Explorer from freezing when opening images
Hi, I've had an issue with Windows Explorer freezing when trying to interact with an image file. Task Manager always shows the wrong icon for it as well. I've searched and tried at least these: SFC DISM Rebuild icon cache Restart windows explorer Restart PC There's a couple other things I've tried I can't recall right now but found on websites trying to remedy this. I would appreciate any guidance on what to do.
