Multimedia Redirection (MMR) on Windows 365 General Availability
Today, we are announcing the general availability of Multimedia Redirection (MMR) for Windows 365 and Windows 365 users. MMR is supported on both Chrome and Edge browsers for Windows. Multimedia Redirection (MMR) enables smooth video playback while viewing videos in a browser running on Windows 365. Prior to the availability of MMR, media was rendered once in the Azure VM and then again in the remote client. With Multimedia Redirection enabled, the media element is remoted from the browser to the local machine, reducing processing in the cloud VM and resulting in smoother playback, as well as significant cost savings. MMR supports 30+ most trafficked and essential business sites on the Internet, including YouTube, Wall Street News, Teams Live Events, etc. To see the full list of websites supported by MMR, seeWebsites that work with multimedia redirection. We are happy to announce new upgrades to Multimedia Redirection (MMR) on Azure Virtual Desktop are now in public preview. Now you can enjoy a smoother video playback experience while watching videos in your Azure Virtual Desktop remote app browser and session desktop. These updates allow MMR to work on 30 websites, such as Facebook, IMBD, YouTube, Fox Sports, Vimeo, Coursera, Yahoo, Reddit and more. Both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome support the new multimedia redirection video upgrades. In addition to working on more websites, users have access to more media controls, refreshed playback status icon indicators, and new diagnosability tools available in the MMR browser extension. Getting started To enjoy the Multimedia Redirection upgrades, the latest MSI installer is required.
