It seems basic secure release via QR code + M365 app has been implemented now and from testing it seems to work as expected (although I see other feature requests related making that per user or per job rather than per printer).
Unfortunately, "Follow Me" printing is still missing. Perhaps you would create a virtual queue in UP portal and assign multiple physical printers to it and then combine this with the QR code release side. This would mean you only need to push one queue to devices (via Intune or another method) and then jobs are sent to the printer based on the QR code (stretch goal would be support for card readers).
