SQL Server Replication technology allows logical distribution and synchronization of data from one to one or many targets depending on requirement. CDC is data extraction and movement technologies which form backbone of many user scenarios and applications for users of SQL Server. One of the most frequent use-case for CDC is ETL services and applications. SQL Server team works with many users of SQL Servers who have deployed these technologies in critical and high-volume production servers all over the world.
When SQL Server 2017 was introduced on Linux platform, the replication and CDC capabilities were unavailable. For many users of SQL Server who wanted to adopt SQL Server on Linux platform, unavailability of this feature was a limiting factor.
With SQL Server 2019, we introduced support for replication and CDC features for SQL Server on Linux by bringing in relevant components and subsystems within SQL Server core engine package. This support includes Snapshot replication, Transactional replication and CDC. Peer-to-peer transactional replication, merge replication and Oracle publishing are not supported.
Today we are glad to announce that we have brought the replication and CDC features to SQL Server 2017, starting with Cumulative update 18 (CU18). You can read more about how to configure replication and CDC via following documentation links.
