We are also seeing the issue on SQL Server 2022, CU 23. I'm opening a support case shortly.

Would you kindly update the group if you hear anything from Microsoft.

The Microsoft rep in our support case says this is a known issue:

        https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5724634/databasemail-exe-fails-after-sql-server-2022-from

However, I have not yet seen the known issues updated yet on the CU page.

        https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/sql/releases/sqlserver-2022/cumulativeupdate23

We hadn't rolled out CU 1 to any SQL Server 2025 instances yet, so I am unable to comment on that update.

Confirmed same issue with SQL 2025 environment after CU1 application

I am seeing the exact same issue.
I tested database mail - it worked. Then applied CU23, after which database mail no longer works. The mails just ends up in dbo.sysmail_unsentitems

Anyone else having issues with database mail after installing CU23?  I installed on two separate servers that use two different SMTP servers, and neither will send emails now.  Records in msdb.dbo.sysmail_mailitems indicate a sent_status of 0 (unsent).  No new records in msdb.dbo.sysmail_faileditems.  is_broker_enabled = 1 for msdb.

Tested on a SQL 2019 instance that uses one of the same SMTP servers, and email was successfully sent.

Incidentally, seeing the same issue for 2025 CU1 that was also released yesterday.

Yes, same issue on three tested SQL Server instances. When running the databasemail executable from a cmd prompt I get this error:

Could not load file or assembly ... or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

I could only resolve the issue by uninstalling CU 23

Yes, I'm seeing the same issue i.e. database mail not working after installing CU23 for SQL Server 2022.
