Deploying SQL Server in Azure VMs  gives you access to unique offers available only in Azure that allow you run cost effectively and securely. Azure Hybrid Benefit enables you to save big on Azure by using existing on-premises SQL Server licenses with software assurance to run your workload in the cloud.  Hybrid Benefit comes with 180 days of dual use rights, so that you can use the same license to run in Azure and on-premises while you migrate. Runing SQL Server in Azure also gets you free Extended Security Updates for SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2, and for SQL Server 2012 when it reaches end of support in July 2022.
