Unable to chat with external user from skype for business

Copper Contributor

HI Team,

I have skype for business id and able to chat internally in the same domain but we are not able to chat with external users it's getting the message as " The action couldn't be completed. please try again later."

I want to let you know that what settings is necessary from my side to make the change in my skype for a business chat for external client or domain.

Please help!

Hi,

If you are running Skype for Business Online check that External Access is enabled in Office 365 admin Center (go to Admin Centers > Teams & Skype > Legacy portal), choose Organization > External communicationsThe setting should be  On except for blocked domains or On only for allowed domains.

If you are running Skype for Business On-Premises it is a larger span of potential problems, there could be a setting like a External Access Policy that denies external communication, it could be network issues for Edge servers or maybe federation is not activated.
