Multiple chats sessions with same contact in S4B window ?
Christopher:
The Grouped View is a simply a way to view the existing list of chats in the UI. It is not a new mechanism for pchat, channels or other conversation types. "Persistent chat" (in that we store conversation messages in Exchange) is available to today if your organization has enabled server-side conversation history.

So Henry made a comment of "Now that the Skype mobile app is telling us explicitly to switch to Teams, is this bug fix still on the roadmap?" which is not true. There is no explicit communication to switch to Teams. Like Phillip said, that's only for folks whose organization has ALREADY switched to Teams. So his comment was misleading.

I have that option selected - hasn't changed anything. Everything is still broken up into dozens of conversations.
- ken_nycOct 04, 2018Copper Contributor
I completely agree that the multiple conversations from the same contact is a joke, but does anyone else have this option, which I got from the "Office Insider Slow" option from the updates?

"referring to the behavior of split conversations - If so, that behavior is not a "bug"
Were you able to type this with a straight face? See below, from Sept 2017, your acknowledgement that this is indeed a 'Problem' (your words, not mine), and that a 'solution' was being implemented that would 'reuse the same chat window or panel for multiple conversations with the same person'. This has not been delivered, and this is indeed, by all accounts, a bug.
- Robert SinclairOct 04, 2018Copper ContributorSoooo I guess we can end this years-long thread now. Skype for Business will officially never be fixed to address the fundamental failure of not splitting up chats dozens of times.
Time to move to a different platform, everyone. We’ve got time-of-death here.
What a disaster and disappointment.
-R - Matthew PilarOct 04, 2018Brass ContributorThank you for your response.
So for clarification, are you saying that our options regarding the main issue outlined in this thread ("Multiple chats sessions with same contact in S4B window ?") is to either deal with having an insane number of chats with a single contact making it nearly impossible to reference conversation history creating a terrible user experience OR merge to a completely different product that utilises contact-based architecture? - Henry KungOct 04, 2018Copper Contributor
Thanks for the reply, I get that context can get missed in these long running threads.
After following this thread for nearly 2 years, I do have to say that this a particularly disheartening and ignominious way to put this issue to bed.

I had no intention of avoiding Henry's question, but apparently I misunderstood his question. His post had a screen shot about features available in the mobile app, with text "Now that the Skype mobile app is telling us explicitly to switch to Teams, is this bug fix still on the roadmap?"
I was unsure what he meant by "this bug fix", but I thought he was referring to the screen shot of features that he posted, which also listed bugs that were fixed. It sounds like his mobile app is telling him that his organization has switched to Teams, so what "bug fix" he meant with respect to Teams was unclear. I tried to clarify that he should only see notifications of Teams if his organization has moved to Teams.
From your comment, perhaps he was referring to the behavior of split conversations and not concerned with Teams at all. If so, that behavior is not a "bug" as I have explained in detail, so that phrasing did not resonate with me. If I misunderstood, I apologize. If the question is whether we have plans to rearchitect the Skype for Business session-based conversation model, the answer is - no, we do not have any plans currently in the roadmap.

- Jennifer WhitingOct 04, 2018Copper Contributor"How is this misinformation?"
I didn't get that either. - Henry KungOct 04, 2018Copper Contributor
lol? How is this misinformation? I'm simply asking if this bugfix is still planned or if it has been abandoned based on the evidence we have.
- Matthew PilarOct 04, 2018Brass Contributor"Please don't make up information that's not there. It makes it hard for those catching up to understand what is really going on when you spread misinformation. This is not true, may be your opinion, but please keep it as such.,"
Context is key when making comments like this, please quote post in question as there are several pages of comments and you replied to Henry Kungs comment simply asking for clarification on a notification he had received. - Kimberly AbbottOct 04, 2018Copper Contributor

Thank you for the clarification. It's confusing for sure. Grouped View helped a bit, but it gets a little crazy.

Jennifer,
My understanding is that S4B only becomes unavailable via mobile IF your district were to implement Teams. Since you are not implementing teams, you should not have to worry about the functionality of mobile.
That being said, S4B is still terrible and this issue with session based messaging is not likely to ever be resolved so be prepared for about 40 conversations with the same contact showing up in your chat log and never being able to accurately find anything in chat history.
- Jennifer WhitingOct 04, 2018Copper ContributorSo let me make sure I understand you, I just switched my entire school to SfB, and now we won't be able use it on mobile? My district is not deploying Teams, so this is a big problem. Ugh.
After weeks of searching for answers, the SfB team told me this week that past conversations can only be viewed from Conversation History in Outlook. If you use different apps for conversations (desktop, iOS, OWA), you cannot see entire conversation histories. That is part of the basic problem - the lack of history following the user. - Matthew PilarOct 04, 2018Brass Contributor
Nice job completely avoiding Henry's question, Phillip...
It's about time we all just accept that Microsoft has no intention of fixing this issue.
Disappointed.

If your organization has upgraded your account to Teams, you will see the notification. If you have the latest version of the Skype for Business app on iOS or Android, you will have the ability to sign into the Skype for Business apps in order to join meetings and see past conversations. You will not be able to start new conversations from Skype for Business.

Now that the Skype mobile app is telling us explicitly to switch to Teams, is this bug fix still on the roadmap?

MAC, Ver: 16.18.51
I have 6 to 8 windows for the same user daily. This is the most ridiculous and unproductive communication software I have ever been forced to use. I work in development so I am integrating with many of the same team members multiple times during the day.Since the platform is flawed (session based) which makes zero sense in the 2018 online work space why not make the sessions never expire?? or at least give the choice. I am begging our IT team to switch systems. Been suffering through it since Lync..... So unsatisfied and bummed..... The opposite of productivity...

We do not currently tracking a fix for this on Android. We have received strong feedback on the Mac for this experience, but we have not had customer feedback for the same on the mobile clients.
Phil.

Let's be honest with ourselves, Marco, Microsoft isn't doing anything about this issue on ANY device.
- Marco HeyAug 07, 2018Copper ContributorHi Phill,
Is Microsoft doing something about this issue on Android devices?
