SharePoint Server Subscription Edition Upgrade

Question

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade from SharePoint 2013 Foundation to&nbsp;SharePoint Server Subscription Edition directly and I'm wondering if anyone has done this using a 3rd party tool like ShareGate. I'm trying to avoid going from 2013 to 2016 to (I do know that I can skip 2019) SharePoint Server Subscription Edition manually, but I'm not sure if it's even possible.

Hi!No you need to upgrade to SharePoint 2016 First and then go Subscription!What you can do is to setup new servers with SharePoint Server Subscription Edition and then use ShareGate to Migrate content, which to be honest would be recommended as you get the option to clean up abit (alot).

See this as you into a new intranet and moving to Modern SharePoint. This means new structure, new UI etc. So it's recommended to follow Microsoft guidelines on how to architect an intranet, Do a cleanup job, so you don't move old files etc and do a relaunch of the intranet because it will be modern SharePoint with alot more features that new users don't know about 🙂

DaveStuart&nbsp;well, AFAIK SP SE is pretty much the same as SP 2019, with some modernization under the hood, but otherwise mostly like SP 2019. In terms of migration with ShareGate, yes, it's possible. The only problem could cause customizations (if any), you have to make a cleanup 1st. Also, it might take more time than DBs migration like SP 2013 - SP 2016. Your users will have a modern UI like in SharePoint Online, but since it is 1 of the 1st versions, it's much less usable, so you might like to switch to the classic UI unless you need some customizations with SPFX. Also make sure you installed 22H2, which adds some features.&nbsp;

NicolasKheirallah thanks for the extra information. I'm actually hoping to keep the same old plain Jane going forward as I have a specific feel for things and don't want to disturb the users from what they're used to. I'm excited to get this done in the new year.I actually got this link from ShareGate.
